Colorado ended a six-match winless run against Sporting Kansas City (D3 L3) with a 2-0 home win in March. The Rapids have won just four of their 30 MLS visits to Kansas City since 2000 (D6 L20).
Sporting Kansas City, the only team in MLS history to concede seven goals in a match more than once, did so for a third time on Saturday in a 7-2 defeat to Portland. SKC also allowed seven goals in a loss to the Galaxy in 2019 and a loss to the Fire in 2001.
The Rapids made it 22 straight regular season games unbeaten at home with a 2-0 win over LAFC on Saturday, but Colorado has just one point from five away matches this season (D1 L4). Dating back to last October, Colorado has lost seven of its last 10 away matches (W2 D1), including the last three in a row.
There were eight goals in the second half of Sportingās loss to Portland on Saturday (Por 6-2 SKC), equaling the MLS record for most combined goals in a half that Kansas City helped set in its fourth-ever MLS match, in May 1996 in a 6-4 win over the Crew.
Diego Rubio scored his sixth goal of the season on Saturday, netting Coloradoās second penalty goal against LAFC. Rubioās six goals are already more than he scored in either of the last two seasons as heās scored more just twice in his first six league seasons (11 in 2019 with Colorado, 8 in 2018 with SKC).
