MLS Preview: Seattle Sounders (3-5-1) at Houston Dynamo FC (4-4-3)

The Dynamo snapped an eight-match losing streak against the Sounders the last time the sides met with a 2-1 home victory in October 2021. Houston has never won consecutive matches against Seattle in MLS, while all six of the Dynamo’s wnis over the Sounders have come in Houston.

The Dynamo snapped a three-match losing streak with a 2-0 win over Nashville on Saturday. Home field advantage has been strong for Texan teams this season, with Austin, Dallas and Houston losing just one of 17 home matches against teams from outside the state in 2022 (W11 D5).

The Sounders ended a three-match league losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Minnesota on Sunday. Seattle has not won consecutive matches in MLS since a four-match run in September-October last year.

The Dynamo have averaged just 97.6 passes in the attacking third per match this season, only Inter Miami (95.3) has averaged fewer. Houston’s 16.1 touches in the opponent’s box ranks last in MLS this season, while its 5.73 shots inside the box per match is second fewest in the league (Toronto – 5.67).

Raúl Ruidíaz and Nicolas Lodeiro both scored for Seattle in the win over Minnesota on Sunday, the 11th time both have scored in a single MLS match for the Sounders (including playoffs). Only the LAFC pair of Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi (13 times) have had more such games since Ruidíaz joined MLS in July 2018.
