HURRICANES vs. DEVILS SERIES NOTES
— Carolina is facing New Jersey in the fourth and final meeting between the teams during the 2022-23 season.
— Carolina and New Jersey are meeting for the 155th time in their regular-season histories. Carolina holds a 62-74-12-6 overall record, including a 26-41-4-4 road record.
— The Hurricanes lead the season series 2-1-0 in 2022-23 (Devils: 1-1-1), and they are 7-3-0 in the teams’ last 10 meetings, with wins in five of the last six.
— Carolina posted a 4-1 win over New Jersey at PNC Arena on 12/20. Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Stefan Noesen, Jordan Staal and Teuvo Teravainen each scored for the Hurricanes, while Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 37 of 38 shots faced in net.
— The Hurricanes earned a 5-4 shootout win over the Devils at Prudential Center on 1/1. Sebastian Aho (1g, 1a), Stefan Noesen (2a) and Derek Stepan (2g) recorded two points, and Martin Necas scored a power-play goal to force overtime before Andrei Svechnikov scored the only goal in the shootout. — Brett Pesce is a native of Tarrytown, N.Y., about 40 miles northeast of Newark. He played youth hockey with the North Jersey Avalanche and spent one season with the EJHL’s New Jersey Hitmen in 2011-12.
— Paul Stastny’s father, Peter, posted 173 points (64g, 109a) in 217 games with the Devils from 1990-93.
— Dougie Hamilton registered 121 points (42g, 79a) in 184 NHL games with Carolina from 2018-21 and added 14 points (6g, 8a) in 31 playoff games with the Hurricanes. He was acquired from CGY along with Micheal Ferland and Adam Fox in exchange for Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm on 6/23/18.
— Acquired from VGK in exchange for Nicolas Roy and a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft (Oscar Plandowski) on 6/27/19, Erik Haula recorded 22 points (12g, 10a) in 41 games with Carolina in 2019-20. He was traded to FLA along with Lucas Wallmark, Eetu Luostarinen and Chase Priskie in exchange for Vincent Trocheck on 2/24/20.
— Brendan Smith tallied eight points (4g, 4a) in 45 games with the Hurricanes in 2021-22. He added four points (1g, 3a) in 14 playoff games with Carolina, scoring his first career postseason shorthanded goal in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Second Round vs. NYR.
— Devils Video Coach Jerry Dineen’s brother, Kevin, was selected by the Whalers in the third round (56th overall) of the 1982 NHL Draft and played 708 games with Hartford/Carolina over two stints with the franchise (1984-91, 1995-99), recording 544 points (250g, 294a) and a franchise-record 1,439 penalty minutes.

WHAT TO KNOW
New Jersey opened a two-game road trip with a 3-2 shootout victory at Washington on Thursday and then collected a 3-1 win at
Montreal on Saturday.
Jersey’s team also improved its road record to 25-4-4, which ranks first in the NHL.
The most road wins in a single season for franchise history was earned in 1998-99, after the Devils logged a 28-10-3 record.
The 25 road wins this season are the second most in franchise history, while the third most were earned in 2000-01, 24 road wins.
The Devils are scheduled for eight road games before the regular season concludes on Apr. 13 for Jersey.
Detroit earned the most road wins in a single season all-time, after the Wings recorded a 31-7-3 road record in 2005-06.
After Saturday’s win, the Devils improved to 11-5-1 overall in back-to-back sets and 5-3-1 in the first half of back-to-back sets for 2022-
23.
The Devils enter Sunday’s contest with a 6-2-0 record in the second half of back-to-back games for the season.
Sunday, Mar. 5, at Arizona marked Lindy Ruff’s 200th career game as head coach with the New Jersey Devils since he was hired in 2020 (87-91-22).
Ruff is one of five coaches in franchise history who reached the 200 marker for regular-season games:

New Jersey enters Saturday’s contest eight wins shy of tying the franchise record (51) for the most wins in a single season, which was earned in 2008-09.
The Devils earned 42, or more, wins in a single season for the 16th time in franchise history. The last time that the Devils earned 42, or more, wins in a season was in 2017-18 (44-29-9).
Neither the Devils, nor Canadiens, took a penalty on Saturday. The outing marked just the second time since 1982-83 that the Devils experienced a game when neither Jersey nor the opponent took a penalty.
The only other time since 1982-83 that the Devils and an opponent experienced a game when neither team took a penalty was on April 2, 2010, in a 2-1 shootout loss vs Chicago at Prudential Center.
For franchise history, tonight’s contest marked the fourth time that the franchise and an opponent did not experience taking any penalties.
