Red Sox agree to terms with catcher Kevin Plawecki on one-year contract

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today agreed to terms with catcher Kevin Plawecki on a one-year contract for the 2022 season.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Plawecki, 30, played in 64 games for the Red Sox last season, making 40 starts at catcher. The right-handed hitter batted .287 (45-for-157) with seven doubles, three home runs, and 15 RBI, including batting .312 (29-for-93) with a .792 OPS in 37 games following the All-Star break. Selected by the New York Mets in the first round (35th overall) of the 2012 June Draft, Plawecki has played 384 major league games for the Mets (2015-18), Cleveland Indians (2019), and Red Sox (2020-21). He has hit .237 (261-for-1,100) with 21 home runs and 124 RBI.

With today’s agreement, there are six remaining Red Sox players eligible for salary arbitration: Christian Arroyo, Rafael Devers, Nick Pivetta, Hunter Renfroe, Josh Taylor, and Alex Verdugo.
