TEAM NOTES
TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
Tonight, the New York Islanders host the Washington Capitals in the second of four meetings between the two clubs this season. The last time these teams met was January 16, at UBS Arena, when Sebastian Aho, Hudson Fasching and Matt Martin each found the back of the net to help the Islanders earn a point in an overtime loss. The Islanders have collected points in their last four consecutive meetings with the Capitals (2-0-2), dating back to March 15, 2022. The Islanders improved to 4-0-1 in their last five games on Thursday night, as Hudson Fasching and Anders Lee each scored in the third period to help the Islanders mount a two-goal deficit, and Brock Nelson potted the game-winner in overtime. It was the Islanders’ fourth straight victory against a Metropolitan Division opponent. The Islanders also have a 7-2-1 record in their last ten games. Amongst Metropolitan teams, they are tied New Jersey for second-best record in that span, behind Carolina (8-2-0).

SERIES SWEEP
Thursday’s victory was the Islanders fourth straight against the Pittsburgh Penguins. It is the first time in franchise history that the Islanders have swept a season series against the Penguins, and the first time since 2014-15 that they will finish a regular season with a winning record in PPG Paints Arena.

PENALTY KILL
The Islanders lead the NHL in home-ice penalty kill, with an 87.5% success rate through 34 games this season. This season, they have allowed 11 power play goals in 88 times shorthanded. Since December, they have allowed just six (53 times shorthanded).
