The Ducks dropped a 3-1 contest to the Boston Bruins Sunday night at Honda Center. Mason McTavish opened the scoring, netting his second goal of the season at 5:05 of the third period. Ryan Strome earned the primary assist on the goal, recording his team-leading fourth assist. Frank Vatrano also earned his first assist of the campaign, his team-leading fifth point (4-1=5). Urho Vaakanainen made his season debut and John Gibson stopped 23-of-25 shots in his third start of 2023-24.

TODAY’S GAME: The Anaheim Ducks begin a four-game road trip tonight when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena (3:30 p.m. PT, TV: Bally Sports SoCal, AUDIO: Ducks Stream). The Ducks are in the midst of seven games in 12 nights (game 3), while tonight continues a stretch of five straight games Anaheim will face an Eastern Conference opponent. The Ducks continue their nine-game October schedule. Following tonight’s game, the Ducks will continue the four-game trek Thursday, Oct. 26 at Boston at TD Garden (4 p.m. PT) before visiting Philadelphia on Saturday, Oct. 28 (10 a.m. PT) and Pittsburgh on Monday, Oct. 30 (4 p.m. PT).
DUCKS-BLUE JACKETS: Anaheim and the Columbus Blue Jackets open a two-game season series tonight at Nationwide Arena. The Ducks are riding a four-game win-streak vs. the Blue Jackets, winning eight of their last 10 games. During the 2022-23 season, the Ducks earned a 5-3 win at Nationwide Arena (Jan. 19) and a 7-4 win in Orange County (Mar. 17). Troy Terry paced the team in scoring (1-3=4) and assists, while Trevor Zegras and Max Jones tied for the team lead in goals (2). BLUE JACKETS’ BUSY WEEK AHEAD
The Blue Jackets swept their first back-to-back set of the season last week, earning a 3-1 win over Calgary on Friday and 5-4 overtime win at Minnesota on Saturday. The last time the club swept a home-road back-to-back set was Jan. 28-29, 2021, defeating Florida 3-2 in a shootout before downing Chicago 2-1. The club plays four games over the next seven days, with two at home (Oct. 24 vs. ANA and Oct. 28 vs. NYI) and two on the road (Oct. 26 at MTL and Oct. 30 at DAL). Saturday’s win at Minnesota began a stretch of seven-of-11 games played away from Nationwide Arena through Nov. 12. The club also visits Montreal (Oct. 26), Dallas (Oct. 30), Washington (Nov. 4), Florida (Nov. 6), Detroit (Nov. 11) and the NY Rangers (Nov. 12).
EARLY START ON TUESDAY PART OF NHL’S “FROZEN FRENZY”
On Tuesday, all 32 teams will be in action with each of the 16 games facing off at staggered start times beginning at 6pm ET with Toronto at Washington and concluding at 11 pm ET with Philadelphia at Vegas. The Blue Jackets host Anaheim in the second game of the night with puck drop slated for 6:30 pm ET.

Columbus finished with 54 shots on goal in Saturday’s 5-4 overtime win at Minnesota. It was tied for the fourth-most in a single game in franchise history and was the second-most in a win, trailing only the 60 shots recorded in a 3-2 SOW at Arizona on Dec. 3, 2016. The Blue Jackets outshot Minnesota 54-28 in Saturday’s victory. The +26-shot differential was tied for the third-highest in a win in franchise history, trailing only +28 (44-16) recorded in a 2-0 win vs. Detroit on Feb. 7, 2020 and +27 (47-20) in a 3-1 victory over Nashville on Apr. 27, 2013. It also tied the record for largest shot differential in a road victory after also finishing +26 (60-34) in a 3-2 SO win at Arizona on Dec. 3, 2016.
The Blue Jackets play nine games in the month of October, including six at Nationwide Arena. Tuesday’s contest against Anaheim closes out a stretch of three consecutive games against the Western Conference from October 20-24.
