GOLDEN KNIGHTS LAST GAME RECAP
February 16 – Vegas Golden Knights 2, San Jose Sharks 1
William Carrier scored the deciding goal with 17.2 seconds to go as the Vegas Golden Knights (33-18-4) defeated the San Jose Sharks (17-28-11), 2-1, on Thursday night at T-Mobile Arena. After a scoreless first period, San Jose snagged a 1-0 lead on a goal from Alexander Barabanov. Paul Cotter broke free early in the third period and got the Golden Knights on the board to make it a 1-1 hockey game. In the final minute, Chandler Stephenson set up Carrier for the game-winning goal with just 17.2 seconds left. Vegas came away with the 2-1 victory and extended its win streak to four games.

Recording their fourth consecutive win, the Golden Knights are on their longest win streak since their franchise-high 10-game stretch at the start of the season. Vegas also holds a five-game point streak after falling to the Islanders in overtime prior to the All-Star break. The Golden Knights stand at 4-0-1 in their last five contests entering into their first game of the season with the Lightning on Saturday.

Against the Lightning
Vegas and Tampa Bay will meet for the first time this season, the Lightning are one of only two clubs the Golden Knights have not faced yet (Carolina). In eight meetings, Vegas owns a 5-3-0 record against Tampa Bay and are even at 2-2-0 when playing at T-Mobile Arena. The last time these teams met, the Lightning overcame a 2-0 deficit (VGK goals by Brett Howden and William Carrier) in the third period to force the Golden Knights into extra time. After a scoreless overtime, the clubs battled through seven rounds of the shootout with Vegas goals scored by Nicolas Roy, Shea Theodore, William Karlsson, and Mark Stone who had the game-deciding tally. The Golden Knights will look to have their first win at home against the Lightning since the 2019-2020 season and extend their current win streak to five games.

Veteran Reliever Agrees to One-Year Contract With Club Option

Phoenix – Justin Wilson, a left-handed pitcher, has been signed by the Milwaukee Brewers to a one-year contract with a club option for 2024. Jason Alexander, a right-handed pitcher, was placed on the 60-day injured list with a strained right rotator cuff in order to make room on the 40-man roster. Matt Arnold, Senior Vice President and General Manager, made the announcement.

In 527 relief appearances over 11 seasons with Pittsburgh (2012-2014), New York-AL (2015-2021), Detroit (2016-17), Chicago-NL (2017-18), New York-NL (2019-20), and Cincinnati, 35-year-old Wilson has a record of 33-24, a 3.41 ERA, and 18 saves.

Pittsburgh took the Anaheim, California native out of Fresno State in the fifth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.

TONIGHTS STORYLINES & STATS
This is the second of two matchups this season between the Flames and Rangers. These teams met just over a week ago in a thrilling 5-4 overtime clash with New York coming out on top. This is a Pacific Division versus Metropolitan Division matchup; The Flames have an overall record of 6-4-4 against Metropolitan Division opponents this season and a record of 10-10-7 against Eastern Conference opponents.

LAST MEETING WITH THE RANGERS:
The Flames and Rangers met just 12 days ago on February 6th back in New York. Filip Chytil opened the scoring for the Rangers just over five minutes into the game, but midway through the period Blake Coleman responded with his 11th of the season. Filip Chytil and Tyler Toffoli traded goals in the second before Mika Zibanejad gave the Rangers the lead with just 14 seconds remaining in the frame. In the third, Andrew Mangiapane would redirect a Noah Hanifin pass home and the Flames battled back to tie the game for the third time. Shortly after, Michael Stone would tee up a slap shot that zipped past Halak to give the Flames their first lead of the night. Mika Zibanejad would respond for New York later in the frame, and the two teams were deadlocked through 60 minutes of play. In overtime, the Rangers would score 1:37 in to win 5-4.

SATURDAY NIGHT’S ALRIGHT FOR A FIGHT:
Weekends have been kind to Calgary with the Flames going 9-2-2 on Saturday night tilts. The Flames have outscored opponents 52-40 on Saturday’s and their last clash they tied a season-high with seven goals in Buffalo. Dating back to November 12th, the Flames have won their last four home ice games on Saturday’s beating the Lightning (6-3), the Canucks (3-2), Washington (5-2) and Winnipeg (3-2). Nazem Kadri currently leads the Flames with seven goals scored on Saturday night games, followed by Lindholm and Toffoli with five each and Mangiapane with four.

PENALTY KILL PRODUCTION:
With Elias Lindholm’s shorthanded goal on Thursday night, the Flames now have six on the season, tying them for the sixth-most in the NHL. Dillon Dube leads the way with two short-handed tallies, while Trevor Lewis, Mikael Backlund, Blake Coleman and now Elias Lindholm have also tallied on the penalty kill for the Flames. Calgary is one PK marker away from matching their total from last season (7) when they recorded the 12th most in the league.

DOME SWEET DOME:
The Flames have made the Scotiabank Saddledome a tough environment for New York and have knocked off the Rangers in their last three trips to Calgary. The last time the Rangers travelled to the YYC, the Flames won 6-0 with Jacob Markstrom making 22 saves on that night. Calgary is in the midst of a brief three-game home stand with the Flames taking on the Flyers on Monday afternoon.

In posting his 18th point of the season during the game, Sandin set a new NHL career season-high in points, surpassing his previous career-high of 16.   • Auston Matthews scored for Toronto at 11:21 of the first period and posted the primary assist on Timmins’ goal. Matthews recorded his 14th multi-point game of the season.
