MLS Preview: Charlotte FC (3-5-3) at Atlanta United FC (5-3-3)

Atlanta United FC has won two of its three matches against Charlotte FC (L1), including a 3-0 away win on March 11. All three goals in the first meeting between the sides, the only one in Atlanta, were scored in the second half, while the four goals in the two meetings since were scored before halftime.

After losing only one of its first nine matches this season (W5 D3), Atlanta United FC has lost three straight matches in all competitions for the first time since October-November 2020. None of those defeats came at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, however, where Atlanta is unbeaten in five games in 2023 (W4 D1).

Charlotte FC has won two of its last three MLS matches (L1) after recording just one win in its first eight league games this year (D3 L4). Charlotte FC lost its first three MLS matches in 2023 but has lost only two of eight since (W3 D3).

Four of Atlanta United FC’s last seven goals, including its lone goal against Inter Miami FC on Saturday, have been scored off corners. Atlanta United FC has scored 14 goals off corners since the start of last season, more than any other MLS team, including a league-high five this season.

Enzo Copetti scored two of Charlotte FC’s three goals in its win over New York City FC on Saturday. Copetti is the fourth different Charlotte FC player to score multiple goals in an MLS match, joining Karol Swiderski (3 times), Yordy Reyna and Daniel Rios.
