SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed defenseman David Spacek to a three-year, entry-level contract starting with the 2023-24 season.
Spacek, 20 (2/18/03), has recorded 44 points (9-35=44), five power-play goals (PPG) and 124 shots on goal (SOG) in 47 total games with the Sherbrooke Phoenix in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) this season. Spacek ranks eighth among QMJHL defensemen in points and is tied for eighth in assists. Over his last 10 games, Spacek has recorded 14 points (2-12=14), including five multi-point outings.
The 6-foot, 174-pound native of Columbus, Ohio, owns 94 points (21-73=94), 13 PPG and 16 penalty minutes in 104 career games over two QMJHL seasons (2021-23) and owns the most assists by a rookie defenseman in one season for Sherbrooke (36). Spacek also won a silver medal in the IIHF World Junior Tournament with the Czech Republic. He Recorded eight points (3-5=8), 11 shots and a plus-7 rating in seven games. Spacek tied for third in tournament in scoring by defensemen and averaged 19:46 minutes of time on ice per game.
The Wild selected Spacek in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.
