Colorado Rockies agree to contract extension with Outfielder Charlie Blackmon

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have agreed to a one-year contract extension with outfielder Charlie Blackmon covering the 2024 season.

“Charlie Blackmon is synonymous with Rockies baseball and we look forward to watching him continue his great career at 20th and Blake,” said Rockies Senior Vice President and General Manager Bill Schmidt. “Nobody works harder than Charlie preparing for the game and we are excited to see him contribute both on the field and in the clubhouse for another season.”

Blackmon, 37, has compiled a career slash line of .296/.355/.486 across his 13 seasons with the Rockies, tallying 1,688 hits, 310 doubles, 63 triples, 215 home runs and 749 RBI … 2024 will mark Blackmon’s 14th season with the franchise, the second-most in club history behind Todd Helton’s 17-year career … across 93 games this season, Blackmon has slashed .283/.370/.451 with 24 doubles, five triples, eight home runs and 40 RBI … on Sept. 28 vs. Los Angeles-NL, he hit the 41st leadoff home run of his career, good for the 10th-most in MLB history … among franchise leaders, the four-time All-Star (2014, 2017-19) and two-time Silver Slugger (2016-17) ranks first in triples, second in hits, doubles, and total bases, third in walks, tied for fifth in RBI and sixth home runs … in addition to leading all active Major League players in triples, he is the only active player with at least 300 doubles, 60 triples and 200 home runs  … since 2014, he ranks fifth in the Majors and second in the National League with 1,555 hits … over that span, also ranks among Major League leaders in runs (877, 5th), batting average (.296, 7th), games played (1,346, ninth) and total bases (2,579, 9th) … was named a finalist for the 2022 National League Silver Slugger Award at designated hitter after leading the club with 79 starts as the DH while slashing .267/.315/.429 … his 47 RBI as the DH ranked fifth in the NL, ninth in the Majors … on June 15, 2022, Blackmon joined Helton as the only players in franchise history to reach 10 years of service time playing solely for the Rockies … captured his first career National League Batting Title in 2017 after batting a career-high .331, setting career-highs in games played (159), runs (137), hits (213), triples (14), home runs (37), RBI (104), walks (65), on-base percentage (.399) and slugging percentage (.601) … was the first center fielder to win the NL Batting Title since Willie McGee with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1990 … the Suwanee, Ga. native was originally selected in the second round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was originally recruited as a pitcher before transitioning to the outfield.
