A’s recall RHP James Kaprielian; designate RHP Spencer Patton for assignment

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s recalled right-handed pitcher James Kaprielian from Triple-A Las Vegas and designated right-handed pitcher Spencer Patton for assignment, the club announced today.

Kaprielian joins the A’s for the second time this season and is scheduled to start today against Texas. He was on the Opening Day roster and went 0-2 with a 12.94 ERA in six games before being optioned on April 25. After beginning the season in the starting rotation, he made three starts before moving to the bullpen. In two starts for Las Vegas, Kaprielian is 1-0 with a 1.08 ERA, including his most recent start of 5.0 scoreless innings at Sacramento on May 7. 

Patton was selected from Las Vegas May 4 and appeared in four games for the A’s, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk over 5.1 innings while striking out one. He signed a minor league contract with the A’s on April 7 and was 1-0 with a 4.32 ERA (4 er in 8.1 ip) with four walks and 10 strikeouts across six relief appearances with Las Vegas. Patton has spent the majority of his career with the Texas Rangers organization, posting a 4-3 record and a career 5.01 ERA (46 er in 82.2 ip) over 85 relief appearances with the Rangers from 2014-15 and 2021-22.
