Yankees acquire RHP Scott Effross

The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired RHP Scott Effross from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for minor leaguer RHP Hayden Wesneski.

Effross, 28, has gone 1-4 with one save and a 2.66 ERA (44.0IP, 36H, 19R/13ER, 11BB, 50K, 2HR) in 47 games (one start) this season. His 47 appearances are tied for the second-most in the Majors. The right-handed pitcher has held opponents to a .220/.267/.299 (36-for-164) slash line this season, including a .132/.220/.245 (7-for-53) mark vs. left-handers. He has stranded 24 of his 28 inherited runner this year (85.7%), the third-best mark in the National League.

Effross has not allowed a run in 20 of his 24 relief appearances since the beginning of June, posting a 2.01 ERA (22.1IP, 5ER) in that span.

In two Major League seasons with the Cubs (2021-22), he has gone 3-5 with one save and a 2.91 ERA (58.2IP, 49H, 25R/19ER, 12BB, 68K, 4HR) in 61 appearances (one start). The Twinsburg, Ohio, native was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 15th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Indiana University.

Wesneski, 24, went 6-7 with a 3.51 ERA (89.2IP, 75H, 38R/35ER, 28BB, 83K, 9HR) in 19 starts with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. Over three minor league seasons in the Yankees organization (2019, ā€™21-22), the right-handed pitcher has gone 18-14 with a 3.52 ERA (248.1IP, 217H, 111R/97ER, 70BB, 264K, 23HR) in 62 games (43 starts). The Houston, Tex., native was selected by the Yankees in the sixth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft out of Sam Houston State University.
