White Sox announce six roster moves

CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s game vs. Kansas City, the Chicago White Sox announced the following six roster moves:

  • Added LHP Jake Diekman to the active, 26-player roster;
  • Reinstated OF Luis Robert from the 10-day injured list;
  • Returned INF Jake Burger from his injury rehabilitation assignment, reinstated him from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to Class AAA Charlotte;
  • Optioned RHP Davis Martin to Charlotte;
  • Claimed RHP Tobias Myers off waivers from San Francisco and assigned him to Charlotte;
  • Sent RHP Vince Velasquez on an injury rehabilitation assignment to Charlotte.

Diekman was acquired yesterday from Boston in exchange for catcher Reese

McGuire and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Robert has been on the injured list since July 22 (retroactive to July 19) with blurred vision. Robert, who appeared in one rehab game with Charlotte, has not played since leaving in the second inning on July 15 at Minnesota. He is hitting .301/.334/.461 (92-306) with 13 doubles, a team-high 12 home runs, 54 RBI, 48 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 74 games in 2022.

Burger has been on the injured list since July 6 with a bone bruise in his right hand. He is hitting .250/.302/.458 (42-168) with nine doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 26 RBI in 51 games with the White Sox this season.

Martin has made seven appearances (three starts) in six stints with the White Sox this season, going 1-3 with a 4.75 ERA (16 ER/30.1 IP) and 23 strikeouts. He has worked 5.0-plus IP in five of his six outings, and 3.0-plus six times.

Myers, 23, is 1-9 with a 6.14 ERA (43 ER/63.0 IP) and 43 strikeouts in 16 appearances (15 starts) between Class AAA Sacramento in the San Francisco organization and Class AAA Columbus in the Cleveland system. Myers opened the season with the Guardians, was traded to the Giants in exchange for cash considerations on July 7 and designated for assignment on July 31. He originally was selected by the Orioles in the sixth round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Winter Haven (Fla.) High School.

Velasquez has been on the 15-day injured list since July 6 with a blister on his right index finger. He has gone 3-3 with a 5.21 ERA (27 ER/46.2 IP) and 42 strikeouts in 14 games (nine starts) this season, his first with the Sox.
