Thielbar placed on 15-day IL, Larnach optioned, Mahle transferred to 60-day IL

CLEVELAND, OH – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have recalled outfielder/first baseman Alex Kirilloff from Triple-A St. Paul and selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Dereck Rodríguez from the Saints.

Kirilloff, 25, began the 2023 season on the 10-day Injured List while recovering from right wrist surgery and was returned from rehab, reinstated from the IL and optioned to St. Paul on April 30. He appeared in 11 total games on rehab assignment with Low-A Fort Myers (4 games) and St. Paul (7 games), hitting .316 (12-for-38) with one double, four home runs, 12 RBI, seven walks, 10 runs scored, a .447 on-base percentage and a 1.105 OPS in those games. He has played in three games for the Saints since his reinstatement, going 3-for-12 with one double, one RBI, two walks and one run scored.

Rodríguez, 30, has gone 2-0 with a 4.66 ERA (19.1 IP, 10 ER), 10 walks and 20 strikeouts in seven games (2 starts) for the Saints this season. He made two relief appearances for the Twins last season, going 0-1 with a 3.52 ERA (7.2 IP, 3 ER), four walks and four strikeouts.

To make room for Kirilloff on the 26-man roster, the Twins have placed left-handed pitcher Caleb Thielbar on the 15-day Injured List with a right oblique strain (retroactive to May 3). Thielbar, 36, has gone 0-1 with a 1.80 ERA (10.0 IP, 2 ER), seven holds, two walks, 10 strikeouts, a .200 (7-for-35) opponent batting average and a 0.90 WHIP in 11 appearances this season.

To make room for Rodríguez on the 26-man roster, the Twins have optioned outfielder Trevor Larnach to St. Paul. Larnach, 26, has hit .221 (23-for-104) with three doubles, one triple, three home runs, 19 RBI, 13 runs scored and a .686 OPS in 31 games for the Twins this season.

To make room for Rodríguez on the 40-man roster, the Twins have transferred right-handed pitcher Tyler Mahle to the 60-day Injured List. Mahle, who was placed on the 15-day Injured List on Wednesday with right arm posterior impingement and a flexor pronator strain, has gone 1-2 with a 3.16 ERA (25.2 IP, 9 ER), five walks and 28 strikeouts in five starts for the Twins this season.
