Ralph Garza Jr. recalled from Triple-A St. Paul
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed right-handed pitcher Michael Pineda on the 10-day Injured List with a left mild oblique strain.
Pineda, who left last night’s game in the third inning after experiencing left side tightness, has made 17 starts for the Twins this season, going 4-8 with a 4.13 ERA (85.0 IP, 39 ER), 17 walks, 73 strikeouts, a .264 opponent batting average (88-for-333) and a 1.24 WHIP.
To replace Pineda on the 26-man roster, the Twins have recalled right-handed pitcher Ralph Garza Jr. from Triple-A St. Paul. Garza Jr., who was claimed off waivers from the Houston Astros on August 4, has appeared in three games for the Saints, allowing three runs on three hits in 3.2 innings pitched, with two walks and five strikeouts. The 27-year-old made his major league debut on May 29 and appeared in nine games for the Astros prior to joining the Twins, going 1-2 with a 4.09 ERA (11.0 IP, 5 ER), seven walks, 14 strikeouts, a .262 opponent batting average (11-for-42) and a 1.64 WHIP.
