Devin Smeltzer recalled from Triple-A St. Paul

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed right-handed pitcher Joe Ryan on the COVID Injured List. 

Ryan, 25, has gone 5-2 with a 2.28 ERA (43.1 IP, 11 ER), 14 walks, 42 strikeouts, a .186 opponent batting average and a 0.99 WHIP in eight starts for the Twins this season.

To replace Ryan on the 26-man roster, the Twins have recalled left-handed pitcher Devin Smeltzer from Triple-A St. Paul. Smeltzer, 26, has gone 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA (21.0 IP, 9 ER), six walks, 18 strikeouts and a 1.29 WHIP in nine starts for the Saints this season. This is his second stint with Minnesota this year, after being with the major league club from May 14-21 and making two starts, going 1-0 with a 1.74 ERA (10.1 IP, 2 ER), three walks, two strikeouts and a 1.06 WHIP in those outings.
