Toronto Blue Jays Sign RHP Dillon Tate

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed right-handed pitcher Dillon Tate to a one-year contract worth $1,400,000. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Angel Bastardo has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Tate, 30, made four appearances for the Blue Jays in 2024 after being claimed off waivers in September. Between the Blue Jays and Orioles organizations, he appeared in a total of 54 games between the Majors and Triple-A, posting a 3.70 ERA over 58.1 innings with a 3.42 FIP and a 48.6% groundball rate, while limiting hitters to a 33.3% hard-hit rate.

Originally from Harbor City, CA, Tate was selected by the Texas Rangers in the first round (4th overall) of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of UC Santa Barbara. He made his MLB debut with the Baltimore Orioles in 2019. Throughout his five-year MLB career with the Orioles and Blue Jays, Tate has recorded a 4.09 ERA over 190 appearances, with a 1.17 WHIP and a 58% groundball rate.

With his solid track record and experience, Tate is expected to be a valuable addition to the Blue Jays bullpen for the upcoming season.
