Red Sox select INF/OF Pablo Reyes to active Major League roster

Club options infielder Bobby Dalbec to Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today selected infielder/outfielder Pablo Reyes to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. To make room for Reyes, the club optioned infielder Bobby Dalbec to Triple-A Worcester following last night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Red Sox’ 40-man roster is now at 40. Reyes will wear number 19.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Reyes, 29, was acquired yesterday from the Oakland A’s in a minor league trade, in exchange for cash considerations. The right-handed hitter appeared in 21 games this season for Triple-A Las Vegas, batting .257 (19-for-74) with one home run and a .385 on-base percentage while making six starts at second base, five at third base, three at shortstop, three in center field, two in left field, and two as the designated hitter. Originally signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in May 2012, the Dominican Republic native has played in 148 Major League games with the Pirates (2018-19) and Milwaukee Brewers (2021-22), batting .238 (70-for-294) with six home runs.

Dalbec, 27, is 2-for-11 (.182) with two walks in eight games for Boston this season, making one start each at first base, third base, and shortstop. The right-handed hitter has also played 23 games for Worcester, batting .238 with an .849 OPS and 15 RBI (19-for-80, five doubles, one triple, four home runs). Selected by Boston in the fourth round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, Dalbec has batted .232 (191-for-825) in 281 career games for Boston (2020-23).
