Boston Recalls Right-Handed Pitcher Phillips Valdez from Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today placed left-handed pitcher Rich Hill on the 15-Day Injured List with a left knee sprain. To fill Hill’s spot on the active Major League roster, the Red Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Phillips Valdez from Triple-A Worcester.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Hill, 42, has made 15 starts for the Red Sox this season, going 4-4 with a 4.20 ERA (33 ER/70.2 IP). He is one of only three pitchers to make at least 10 career starts for Boston at the age of 42 or older, joining Tim Wakefield and David Wells.
