BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:
- Reinstated infielder/outfielder Kiké Hernández from the 60-Day Injured List.
- Reinstated outfielder Rob Refsnyder from the 10-Day Injured List.
- Designated infielder Yolmer Sánchez for assignment.
Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.
Hernández, 30, was placed on the Injured List on June 8 with a right hip flexor strain. He started four games in center field during his rehab stint with Double-A Portland, batting .250 (3-for-12) with two doubles and two RBI. The right-handed hitter has played 54 games for Boston this season, batting .209 (45-for-215) with 16 doubles, four home runs, and 24 RBI while making 51 starts in center field and appearing in three games at shortstop. Despite missing 60 games on the Injured List, Hernández ranks sixth among American League center fielders with four defensive runs saved in 2022.
Refsnyder, 31, was placed on the Injured List on August 2 with a right knee sprain, retroactive to July 30. The right-handed hitter made two rehab starts in right field for Portland, hitting two home runs for the Sea Dogs on Sunday against Richmond. Refsnyder has played 34 games for Boston this season, batting .309 (29-for-94) with an .885 OPS, 10 extra-base hits, and 12 RBI. Among players with at least 50 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers in 2022, Refsnyder ranks second in batting average (.413), ninth in on-base percentage (.451), and third in OPS (1.081).
Sánchez, 30, played in 14 games for Boston this season, making 12 starts at second base and batting .108 (4-for-37) with two RBI. The switch hitter has hit .247 (61-for-247) with 22 extra-base hits and 33 RBI in 78 games for Triple-A Worcester while making 52 starts at second base, 16 at third base, and 10 at shortstop.
