Red Sox announce roster moves

The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

  • The club agreed to a one-year contract with right-handed pitcher Ryan Brasier for the 2022 season.
  • The club will not tender a 2022 contract to outfielder Tim Locastro. As a result, he becomes a free agent.
  • The club will tender 2022 contracts to all 27 remaining unsigned players on their major league roster.

Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Bostonā€™s 40-man roster is at 37. Ten players are already under contract for 2022: Matt BarnesXander BogaertsRyan BrasierNathan EovaldiKikĆ© HernĆ”ndezJ.D. MartinezChris SaleHirokazu SawamuraChristian VĆ”zquez, and Michael Wacha.

Brasier, 34, posted a 1.50 ERA (2 ER/12.0 IP) in 13 relief appearances for the Red Sox last season after missing the clubā€™s first 134 games on the injured list. The right-hander did not allow a run over his final eight appearances of 2021, spanning 7.2 innings. Selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the sixth round of the 2007 June Draft out of Weatherford College, Brasier has posted a 3.39 ERA (51 ER/135.1 IP) in 141 major league appearances (one start) for the Angels (2013) and Red Sox (2018-21).
