Red Sox announce roster moves

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today announced following roster moves:

 

Reinstated left-handed pitcher Josh Taylor from the COVID-19 Related Injured List.

Designated right-handed pitcher Matt Andriese for assignment.

Appointed right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck the 27th man for today’s doubleheader against the New York Yankees.

The Red Sox’ 40-man roster is now at 40.

 

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

 

Taylor, 28, has made 48 appearances for Boston this season, posting a 3.23 ERA (14 ER/39.0 IP) with 51 strikeouts. Beginning April 30, he has allowed zero runs in 37 of his 39 outings, recording a 1.47 ERA (5 ER/30.2 IP) and a .178 opponent batting average in that time.

 

Andriese, 31, is 2-3 with one save, a 6.03 ERA (25 ER/37.1 IP), 38 strikeouts, and 11 walks in 26 appearances this season (all in relief). He missed the Red Sox’ last 30 games on the 10-day injured list with right hamstring tendinitis.

 

Houck, 25, has posted a 2.93 ERA (10 ER/30.2 IP) with 44 strikeouts and seven walks in eight major league outings (six starts) this season. He most recently pitched Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays, allowing four runs (three earned) in 5.0 innings with eight strikeouts and zero walks.
