Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced prior to Sunday afternoon’s contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Owen White from Triple-A Round Rock. To make room for White on the active roster, the team has optioned right-handed pitcher Glenn Otto to Round Rock.
White, 23, will be in his second stint with the Rangers this season. He was also on the Texas roster for a single day, making his Major League debut in relief on June 13 vs. Los Angeles-AL (L, 2.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R-ER, 1 BB, 2 SO, 1 HR). White has combined to go 3-3 with a 3.61 ERA over 16 G/GS for Frisco (AA) and Round Rock this season, posting a 1.161 WHIP figure. He also started for the American League sqaud in the Futures Game on July 8 in Seattle, posting in a perfect first inning. White, who was scratched from a scheduled start for Round Rock last night, made his most recent start last Sunday at Tacoma (ND, 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 2 SO, 69 pitches/38 strikes).
Otto has posted a 10.80 ERA over 4 relief appearances for Texas since he was activated from the 60-day Injured List on June 30. He spent the season’s first three months on the Injured List with a right shoulder strain.
Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Jacob deGrom, Brett Martin, and Jake Odorizzi) on the 60-day Injured List.
