Rangers place RHP Jon Gray on 15-day injured list, recall LHP Jake Latz from Round Rock

Seattle, Wash. — The Texas Rangers announced prior to Friday night’s game in Seattle that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Jon Gray on the 15-day Injured List, retroactive to September 28, with right lower forearm tightness.  The club has recalled left-handed pitcher Jake Latz from Triple-A Round Rock.

Gray exited his start on Monday at Los Angeles-AL prior to the start of the 7th inning.  He has gone 9-8 with a 4.12 ERA over 29 games/starts for Texas this season, ranking second on the Rangers staff in innings (157.1) and strikeouts (142).  He had spent the entire season on the Rangers active roster until this Injured List placement.

Latz was optioned to Round Rock on Wednesday when Josh Sborz was activated from the Injured List.  He had posted 4.1 scoreless innings over 2 relief outings for Texas from September 16-26 after having his contract selected from Round Rock.  His time on the roster earlier this month marked his second Major League stint, as he made one appearance for the Rangers in 2021.  Latz has spent the balance of the season with Round Rock, posting a 1-4 record with a 4.10 ERA (29 ER/63.2 IP) across 46 games/5 starts.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with five players (Jacob deGrom, Ian Kennedy Brett Martin, Brad Miller, Jake Odorizzi) on the 60-day Injured List.
