MLS Preview: Los Angeles Galaxy (7-5-3) at San Jose Earthquakes (3-7-6)

The Galaxy won their last away match against the Earthquakes, a 3-1 victory in June 2021. LA hasn’t won consecutive away MLS Cali Clasico’s since the 1997-98 (3 straight including a breakaway shootout).

The Earthquakes are unbeaten in seven straight home matches (W3 D4) after a 3-1 loss to the Red Bulls on the opening day of the season. San Jose has had just one longer single-season home unbeaten run in the last six seasons, going 12 in a row without defeat at home in 2019 (W10 D2).

The Galaxy’s 1-1 draw with Portland on Saturday was their third draw in the last nine games, to go along with three wins and three losses. LA hasn’t posted the same result in consecutive matches in that time while scoring nine goals and conceding 10.

Jeremy Ebobisse has scored seven goals in eight career MLS games against the Galaxy, more than against any opponent in his career. He’s scored in each of his last two matches against the Galaxy, once with Portland and once with the Earthquakes.

Dejan Joveljic came off the bench to score for the second straight game in the Galaxy’s draw with Portland on Saturday. Joveljic is the first Galaxy player to score in consecutive games, both as a substitute, since Edson Buddle in 2009.
