MLS Preview: D.C. United (2-2-0) at Atlanta United FC (2-1-1)

Atlanta United has won four of its last five matches against D.C. United, including both contests last season. The sides have played 12 times, with each side winning six times. The only matchup in MLS history that has been played more without at least one draw was Dallas and Tampa Bay (18 times).

D.C. United has four wins and five losses in its last nine matches dating back to last season. D.C. has conceded 16 goals in the five defeats compared to allowing just one goal in the four wins in that span.

All three of Atlanta United’s goals in its comeback draw against CF Montréal on March 19 came from outside the box. It was the first time any team scored three goals from outside the box in a single match since Atlanta did so against the same opponent, Montreal, in April 2018.

More than half (25) of the 49 shots D.C. United has faced this season have been on target, with that 51.0% mark the highest for opponent shooting accuracy in MLS. Over the last two matches, both losses, 14 of the 22 shots D.C. has conceded have been on target (4 goals).

Josef Martínez has scored seven times against D.C. United, having only found the net more often against Orlando City 8 times) in his MLS career. Martínez has scored in each of his last three matches against D.C. The last player to score in four straight games against D.C. was David Villa (7 straight) from 2016-18.
