MLS Preview: Chicago Fire (3-7-5) at Houston Dynamo FC (5-7-3)

The Fire have won their last two matches against Houston (in 2019 and 2020), their first winning streak over the Dynamo in MLS play. The 1-0 away win in 2019, the last meeting in Houston, ended a 10-match home unbeaten run for Houston over the Fire (W6 D4).

After a five-match unbeaten run in March-April (W3 D2), the Dynamo have lost six of their last eight MLS matches (W2), including the last two in a row. No Western Conference team has collected fewer points than the Dynamo since this run began in late April.

The Fire have won only two of their 36 away matches against Western Conference opponents (D9 L25) since the start of the 2014 season. One of those two wins, however, was a 1-0 victory in Houston in 2019.

SebastiĆ”n Ferreira scored Houstonā€™s lone goal in its loss at Orlando on Saturday, his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Ferreira has been directly involved in seven of the Dynamoā€™s last nine goals (5 goals, 2 assists) including each of the last four.

Fabian Herbers headed in the lone goal in Chicagoā€™s 1-0 win over D.C. United on Saturday. Four of the Fireā€™s last seven goals dating back to May 14 have been via headers after they didnā€™t score a header in their previous 18 matches dating back to last September.
