Pirates roster moves

The Pirates have recalled infielder Michael Chavis (uniform #31) from Triple-A Indianapolis and have reinstated outfielder Anthony Alford from the 10-day injured list.

 

To make room on the active roster, infielder Rodolfo Castro has been optioned to Double-A Altoona and infielder/outfielder Hoy Park has been optioned to Indianapolis.

 

The 26-year-old Chavis made his 2021 season debut with Boston as a pinch runner on 4/10 at Baltimore.

 

In 31 games with the Red Sox, Chavis hit .190 (15-for-79) with four doubles, two home runs and six RBI. He also hit .263 (25-for-95) with six homers and 17 RBI in 24 games with Triple-A Worcester before being acquired by Pittsburgh on 7/30 in exchange for LHP Austin Davis.

 

Chavis made his debut with Indianapolis on 8/4 and went 2-for-4 with a two-run double while playing first base at Iowa (game two). He homered in back-to-back games on 8/6-7 and went 3-for-4 with a home run and four runs scored on 8/7 at Iowa. He also hit a walkoff home run on 8/10, giving Indy a 9-8 win over St. Paul.

 

In his 17 games with Indianapolis, Chavis made seven starts at second base, six at first base, three at third base and one in right field while hitting .246 (17-for-69) with five doubles, five home runs and 12 RBI.

 

Alford has been on the 10-day injured list since 8/15 (retro to 8/13) with a lower back strain.
