Phillies sign Matt Strahm

The Phillies have signed left-handed pitcher Matt Strahm to a two-year contract, President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski announced today.

Strahm, 31, pitched exclusively in relief for the Boston Red Sox last season, posting a 3.83 ERA (19 ER, 44.2 IP) in 50 appearances.  He had 52 strikeouts to 17 walks and allowed only five home runs to the 193 batters he faced in 2022.

In 182 career appearances as a reliever, Strahm has posted a 3.11 ERA (68 ER, 196.2 IP) and has held the 821 batters he has faced in relief to a .213/.302/.339 slash line.  He has struck out 214 of those 821 batters (26.1%).

A veteran of seven major league seasons, Strahm has a career 3.81 ERA (129 ER, 304.2 IP) in 207 total games (25 starts) between the Kansas City Royals (2016-17), San Diego Padres (2018-21) and Red Sox (2022).  He was originally selected by the Royals in the 21st round of the 2012 MLB Draft.

A native of West Fargo, N.D., Strahm attended Neosho County Community College. He will wear No. 25.
