BMO Stadium | Los Angeles, California – Saturday, May 6 at 8:00 PM ET
Players to watch:
After Angel City forward Alyssa Thompson’s goal in the club’s 3-3 draw at Portland, she drew level with fellow forward Katie Johnson at the top of the team’s scoring charts. In all, Sunday’s hosts have the third-most shots in the league (54) and the third-most assists (5), but are middle of the pack in goals scored (8). On the other end, Angel City goalkeeper DiDi Haracic has also conceded the second-highest amount of goals in the league (10) and is one of only two goalkeepers to have played all five regular season contests possible and not record a clean sheet (Chicago’s Alyssa Naeher).
Kansas City Current midfielder Debinha was named the NWSL Player of the Week in Week 5 after scoring both of her team’s goals in its 2-0 win over Gotham FC on Sunday. It was the seventh time since the start of 2020 that Debinha has scored multiple goals in an NWSL match (all competitions), more than any other player in that time. Debinha leads her side in scoring with four goals on the year, with only fellow attackers Cece Kizer (2) and Mimmi Larsson (1) joining her on the scoresheet.
Match facts: Angel City FC returns home to BMO stadium where the side will attempt to win its first home game of the year in its fourth attempt, this time against the Kansas City Current on Sunday night. The hosts will be attempting to win their first in four games, while the Current will aim to win a third straight after home wins against Orlando and Gotham in the last two weeks.
Angel City has collected just one point from its last five home matches in all competitions, including losing its last two matches at BMO Stadium. Angel City’s four losses in its last five home games equals its total from its first 13 home NWSL matches in all competitions (W6 D3 L4). However, it can take encouragement from the face that it earned a hard-fought point in Portland in its 3-3 draw, with both Alyssa Thompson and newcomer and veteran Julie Ertz scoring for Angel City in addition to a Portland own goal.
On the other side, Kansas City has won three straight matches in all competitions for the second time in club’s NWSL history (July 2022). The Current have kept clean sheets in all three wins, their first stretch of three straight clean sheets in club history. This stretch comes after Kansas City lost their opening three matches in the league, two of which were on the road against North Carolina and Chicago (Portland at home the other).
Angel City FC collected four points against the Current las season, recording a 1-0 home win and a 1-1 draw in Kansas City. All three goals in the two matches were scored in the 70th minute or later.
