RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina bettors wagered $578.1 million on sports in May, according to a monthly revenue report released Monday by the North Carolina State Lottery Commission.
The total includes both paid and promotional wagers submitted by licensed interactive sports betting operators. Players won $510.2 million during the month.
Under state law, North Carolina levies an 18% tax on gross wagering revenue, defined as the amount received from sports wagers minus winnings paid out, before deductions for expenses or fees.
Gross wagering revenue for May totaled $64.32 million, the Commission said. Based on the statutory tax rate, the state projects $11.58 million in tax proceeds for the month, which will be collected by the N.C. Department of Revenue.
