The Calgary Flames began a brief two-game homestand on Tuesday night against the New York Rangers. The Flames would strike early with Blake Coleman netting his 200th NHL point to give the Flames a 1-0 lead just 1:15 into the contest. The score would remain 1-0 Flames until just before the midway point of the second period when Alexis Lafrenière tipped an Erik Gustafsson point-shot in to draw the Rangers level. Chris Kreider would give New York their first lead of the night with a powerplay marker later in the period, before Erik Gustafsson made it a three-goal middle frame for the Rangers. Calgary was unable to find a response in the third, and New York held on for a 3-1 win.

Their first meeting was on Dec. 16, 2022, which saw the one and only matchup at the Saddledome go St. Louis’s way 5-2. The two would then play two straight games against one another on Jan. 10 and 12 at the Enterprise Center with the Flames taking three of a possible four points from St. Louis. Their first meeting saw the Blues knock off the Flames 4-3 in overtime, before the Flames bounced back two days later to win 4-1.
