TEAM NOTES
TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
Tonight, the New York Islanders host the Los Angles Kings in the first of two matchups between the two clubs this season. These teams last met on February 26, 2022, in Los Angeles, a 5-2 decision in the Kings’ favor. It is the first time the Islanders have hosted Los Angeles at UBS Arena since January 27, 2022. A win tonight against Los Angeles would be the Islanders’ first since February 6, 2020. The Islanders have collected points in seven of their nine games this month (5-2-2 since returning from the All-Star Break). They are also 5-1-1 at UBS area since January 27. This season, they have won five of their six home contests against a Pacific Division foe. The Islanders have a four game point streak on home ice (3-0-1). On Wednesday night, they captured their first win against a Central Division opponent since December 4, 2022, when they defeated the Winnipeg Jets.

THREE STRAIGHT
Islanders netminder Ilya Sorokin has won each of his last three starts, turning aside 109 of 116 shots in that span. His 25-save outing on Wednesday night against Winnipeg was his 20th win of the season and 59th of his career, passing teammate Semyon Varlamov for 10th-most in club history. Sorokin has never faced the Los Angeles Kings. Sorokin, 27, has made 40 or more saves in two of his last three starts. Monday night’s victory in Pittsburgh was the seventh time this season he has made 40-plus saves in a single outing. Sorokin is 5-1-2 when facing at least 40 shots. He enters tonight’s game with a .925 SV% in 42 starts, tied with Connor Hellebuyck for fourth-most amongst NHL netminders with at least 17 games played this season. Sorokin is tied with Darcy Kuemper (WSH) for the league-lead in shutouts so far this season (5). He earned the 15th of his career on February 7. His 15 shutouts lead the league since his NHL debut in 2021 and are fourth-most in franchise history. The ezhdurechensk, RUS native has recorded a shutout in 13.2% of his starts, which is the best in the NHL since 1943-44 among goalies with at least 100 starts.
