STORYLINES
HOSTING THE BLACKHAWKS
Tonight, the Islanders host the Chicago Blackhawks in the second and final matchup between the two clubs this season. The Islanders have collected points in five of their last six matchups against Chicago, including a 3-1 victory on November 1 of this season at United Center.
November 1, Zach Parise, Brock Nelson and Anders Lee each scored for the Islanders. Pariseā€™s goal was his 17th career point against Chicago, leading active Islanders against the Western Conference Blackhawks. The Islanders last hosted the Blackhawks almost exactly one year ago on December 5, 2021, when the Islanders collected a point in a a shootout loss. Noah Dobson and Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored, while Mathew Barzal recorded two assists. Including tonight, the Islanders will play four games in the next seven days. Three will take place at UBS Arena. The Islandersā€™ home record is 8-4-0 through 12 games this season. Five other teams have won at least eight games on home ice this season: Boston, Toronto, New Jersey, Tampa Bay and Winnipeg. At home, the Islanders have collected 16 points and have outscored opponents 39-29.

POWER PLAY
The Islanders have scored a power play goal in eight of their last nine games, including their last five straight. It is the Islandersā€™ longest power play goal streak since December 2017, when they talled PPGs in six straight games. Mathew Barzal scored the lone Islander goal on Friday night on the power play. Barzal leads the Islanders with 13 power play points this season tied with Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad for the most by any Metropolitan Division skater. Noah Dobson, Brock Nelson and Anders Lee are each tied for second-most on the team with eight. Islanders forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau leads the team with four power play goals. This season, the Islanders power play on the road has been most productive, converting on 28.6% of power play opportunities, although they have recorded a power play goal in their last three straight home games (NSH, PHI, EDM).

SOGs
Friday night vs. Nashville, the Islanders registered 49 shots on goal in their 4-1 loss to the Predators. It is the most they have recorded in a single game since March 11, 2020, in Vancouver, a game that went to the shootout. In regulation, the Islanders have not recorded that many shots on goal since October 25, 2008. Nine of the Islandersā€™ season-high 49 shots on goal were taken by Mathew Barzal, who matched a career-high. Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson leads the team in shots on goal and is sixth amongst NHL defensemen, with 77. Brock Nelson is second on the Islanders with 75.

GWGs
In the Islanders’ last win on Saturday night vs. the Flyers, Islanders forward Brock Nelson tallied his second consecutive game-winning goal and his fourth GWG of the season. He has scored the game-winner in each of the Islandersā€™ last two victories (Nov. 25 at CBJ, Nov. 26 vs. PHI) and is one of just five NHLers to tally four game-winners so far this season. His four GWGS are tied with Alex Tuch, Taylor Hall and Jason Robertson for second-most in the league, behind Leon Draisaitlā€™s six game-winning tallies. Nelson leads the Islanders with 11 goals so far this season and has scored points in his last four straight games. Since his first goal of the season on October 28 (at CAR), the Islanders are 9-0-0 when Nelson scores a goal.

NOVEMBER
The Islanders finished the month of November with a 10-4-0 record. It is the fourth time in franchise history they have recorded ten wins in November, and the first time since the 2014-15 season.

18

Islanders forward Anthony Beauvillier enters tonight’s matchup needing one point to reach his career 200th, and two goals to reach his career 100th. On December 1, the Islanders announced that forward Hudson Fasching was recalled from loan (AHL Bridgeport). Fasching, 27, has recorded three points (one goal, two assists) in 38 career NHL games. He served as captain of the Tucson Roadrunners (AHL) during the 2021-22 season, before signing with the Islanders as a free agent on August 23, 2022. This season with Bridgeport (AHL), the Milwaukee, WI native has tallied 10 points (seven goals, three assists) in eighteen games. Fasching can make his Islanders debut tonight. Islanders forward Simon Holmstrom was recalled from loan from Bridgeport (AHL) on November 23. Holmstrom made his NHL debut that night, the first Islanders rookie to make their NHL debut this season. Holmstrom recorded his first NHL point on November 25 in Columbus, an assist on Oliver Wahlstrom’s sixth goal of the season.

BIG THIRD PERIODS
On Saturday night, the Islanders scored three unanswered goals in the third period to collect their 15th win of the season. 14 of the Islanders’ 15 victories in the 2022-23 campaign have included a third period goal.
