Canadian Football League links with BetRegal

Canadian Football League links with BetRegal

The Canadian Football League (CFL) has named BetRegal as the official sport gaming partner of the CFL.

As part of the multi-year agreement, Canadian Football Hall of Fame quarterbacks Damon Allen and Matt Dunigan will join the ambassador group of ‘BetRegal Legends’.

In addition, BetRegal will be prominent in league marketing strategies beginning this season, with media assets throughout the playoffs and Grey Cup including the postseason jersey patch, partner of the Grey Cup Festival, as well as the presenting sponsor for exclusive premium experiences during Grey Cup weekend.

Both the league and BetRegal will have updates on more fan facing initiatives for the 2021 CFL Season. This will include a free-to-play sportsbook experience, CFL squares, and the Race to the 108th Grey Cup, a pick’em style game that will allow fans to pick winners and predict scores to win BetRegal and CFL prizing.

BetRegal will also engage CFL communities by celebrating and rewarding community MVP’s who have gone above and beyond to help their communities through the challenges presented since last March.

‘Canes agree to term with Stefan Noesen

Forward has played 205 career NHL games

 

RALEIGH, N.C. – Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed forward Stefan Noesen to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will pay Noesen $750,000 at the NHL level and $250,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level with a $300,000 guarantee.

 

“Stefan is a veteran forward who plays a high-energy game,” said Waddell. “We’re excited to add him to our organization.”

 

Noesen, 28, skated in six NHL games with San Jose and Toronto last season. He also tallied nine points (3g, 6a) in 16 AHL games with the San Jose Barracuda and Toronto Marlies in 2020-21. The 6’1″, 205-pound forward has registered 54 points (31g, 23a) in 205 career NHL games with Anaheim, New Jersey, Pittsburgh, San Jose and Toronto. He recorded career-highs in goals (13), assists (14), points (27) and games played (72) with the Devils in 2017-18. Noesen has recorded 94 points (40g, 54a) in 154 career AHL games with Norfolk, San Diego, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, San Jose and Toronto. The Plano, Texas, native was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the first round, 21st overall, of the 2011 NHL Draft.

Orlando City Competition Roster Announced for 2021 Leagues Cup

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City’s 30-player competition roster for Leagues Cup was announced today, one week ahead of the 2021 edition kicking off August 10 in Seattle and Kansas City. The tournament, to be played in its entirety in the U.S., is scheduled to begin August 10 with quarterfinal matches. The semifinals are slated for September 14-15, before the competition concludes in Las Vegas with the final set to be played September 22 at Allegiant Stadium.

 

The 2021 edition of Leagues Cup will feature Tigres, Pumas, León and Santos Laguna for LIGA MX, while Sporting Kansas City, Orlando City SC, Seattle Sounders FC, and New York City FC will represent MLS — tickets for the tournament are available here.

 

Per the 2021 competition guidelines, the participating MLS and LIGA MX clubs will register up to 30 players for the Competition Roster. No more than 25 players will be selected for each match, and of the 25, 23 players will be selected for the Matchday roster. Video Review and the concussion substitutes initiative, as have been implemented in both MLS and LIGA MX, will also be integrated into Leagues Cup.

LAFC Defender Eddie Segura undergoes successful knee surgery

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today that defender Eddie Segura underwent successful surgery to repair a tear of his right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on Monday, Aug. 2.  Segura is expected to miss the remainder of the MLS season. The procedure was performed locally at Kaiser Permanente – Baldwin Park Medical Center.

 

Since joining LAFC in 2019, Segura had appeared in 71 straight MLS regular season games, playing in every single match he was available for before missing LAFC’s last match on July 28. In his MLS career, the 24-year-old Colombian has scored a total of three goals and registered one assist in 6,123 total minutes.

Dynamo have two clean sheets in last three games

HOUSTON – Houston Dynamo FC begin a two-game road trip on Wednesday when they travel to Q2 Stadium for the first regular season meeting with Austin FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT and fans can watch the match live on QuestTexas ch. 55 in English and TeleXitos ch. 47.2 in Spanish.

 

Houston enters Wednesday’s game ninth in the Western Conference and a victory would snap a nine-game winless streak that was extended on Saturday after a 0-0 draw with Real Salt Lake at BBVA Stadium. Four Dynamo players returned to BBVA Stadium after representing their country at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup.

 

Midfielder Darwin Ceren earned his second start of the season and forward Tyler Pasher came off the bench for the final push in the second half. They Dynamo also welcomed forward Corey Baird on Saturday hours after arriving in Texas. The 25-year-old forward was traded to the Dynamo on Friday morning from LAFC. Dynamo forward Fafa Picault missed Saturday’s game due to yellow card accumulation and will be eligible for Wednesday’s game in Austin.

 

This is the first meeting between Houston and Austin in the regular season. Both teams met in the preseason as part of the La Copita preseason tournament. Picault scored a brace in the preseason meeting and Maxi Urruti also found the back of the net in the preseason tournament opener.

 

Austin enter Wednesday’s game with three consecutive losses in league play and have not scored a goal since their 4-1 victory over the Portland Timbers on July 1. Austin has only scored 10 goals this season, the fewest in MLS. The expansion side has only won one game at Q2 Stadium this season and enter Wednesday’s game with a 1-3-2 record at home.

 

The Dynamo travel to Allianz Field on Saturday to face Minnesota United at 7 p.m. CT. Fans can watch the match live on QuestTexas ch. 55 in English and TeleXitos ch. 47.2 in Spanish. Houston returns to BBVA Stadium on Aug. 14 to host the Colorado Rapids.

 

Here are three key points ahead of Wednesday’s game:

 

  1. PASHER AND BAIRD OFFER SPARK: Tyler Pasher and Corey Baird joined the Dynamo on Saturday without sharing a single minute on the training pitch. Pasher returned to the Dynamo after competing with Canada in the Concacaf Gold Cup and reaching the semifinals. Baird was traded to Houston on Friday morning and arrived overnight prior to Saturday’s match. The duo entered the game in the 62nd minute and finished with three chances created and Baird finished with two shots on goal. The duo will be key to Houston’s offensive success as the team manages limited options in the attacking third. Dynamo forward Fafa Picault will join the duo on Wednesday after missing Saturday’s game due to yellow card accumulation. Picault has scored two goals this season, tallied three assists and has created 10 chances this season.

 

  1. DYNAMO BACKLINE LIMITS OPPOSITION: The Dynamo have earned two clean sheets in their last three games and opponents have not scored a goal from open play against Houston since July 7. Houston conceded an own goal on July 24 in San Jose and that is the only blemish for the Dynamo since returning from the international break. The addition of Sam Junqua and Teenage Hadebe have added a new dynamic to the back four which has limited opponents to six shots on target in the three-game stretch. Houston will look to limit an Austin side that has faced challenge finding the back of the net this season. The expansion side has scored 10 goals in 15 games this season.

 

3.      AUSTIN IN NEED OF GOALS AND POINTS: Austin FC enter Wednesday’s game at the bottom of the Western Conference and tied for the fewest points earned this season. A playoff spot is still within reach for Austin who only sit seven points from Real Salt Lake. The expansion side looks to snap a three-game losing streak where they have been outscored 4-0. Austin recently signed Sebastián Driussi as a Designated Player and will look to the 25-year-old to find his footing with Cecilio Domínguez and fellow Argentine Tomás Pochettino. Austin last scored a goal in league play on July 1 in a 4-1 victory over the Portland Timbers. Austin also scored in a friendly with Tigres UANL on July 13.

Lions look for back-to-back wins against intrastate side

 

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City SC (8-4-4, 28 points) returns home at the midweek to take on intrastate foes Inter Miami CF (3-8-3, 12 points) on Wednesday, Aug. 4 at Exploria Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET, with coverage set to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX35 PLUS.

The Lions will look to make it back-to-back victories against their neighbors to the south this season after earning a 2-1 victory in Ft. Lauderdale on June 25. Chris Mueller and Nani both found the back of the net in that fixture to earn the come-from-behind victory for the side on the night.

 

City comes into the match after overcoming two separate deficits to defeat Atlanta United FC in a 3-2 victory this past Friday at Exploria Stadium. Kyle Smith scored his first goal as a Lion to draw the two sides level before the half, with Silvester van der Water equalizing for City once more late in the second half. Nani would go on to net the game-winner, getting on the end of a cross from Van der Water in the 87th minute for his third deciding finish of the year.

 

Nani leads the Lions with eight goals this season, followed by Tesho Akindele and Benji Michel with three. Mauricio Pereyra holds the team high in assists with seven on the year, good for second in the league.

 

Inter Miami comes into the match looking to build off a 2-1 victory over CF Montréal on Saturday night at DRV Pink Stadium. A second half brace from Gonzalo Higuaín led the home side back from an opening finish from Montréal’s Joaquín Torres in the 20th minute of play.

 

Higuaín leads Miami with seven finishes on the year, while Gregore and Lewis Morgan sit tied for the team high in assists with three apiece.

 

Following Wednesday’s match, the Lions head out on the road for their first visit to TQL Stadium to take on FC Cincinnati on Saturday, Aug. 7.

26-Year-Old Joins Club From Millonarios of the Colombian Categoría Primera A

 

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today the acquisition of Colombian forward Cristian Arango from Millonarios Fútbol Club of Colombia’s top league, Categoría Primera A. Arango, who will occupy an international spot, was acquired using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) and will be added to LAFC’s roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa.

 

“Cristian is an accomplished striker and an important acquisition for us at this stage of the season,” said LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington. “We believe that he will be a great fit and, given his age and experience, will help us now and into the future.”

 

Arango, 26, has been with Millonarios since 2019, where he has scored 20 goals and added three assists in 50 matches across all competitions. He began his professional career with Colombian side Envigado in 2015, where he appeared in 45 matches and added six goals amidst loan spells to Valencia B and Millonario. He was then transferred to S.L. Benfica of the Portuguese Primeira Liga in 2017, where he spent time on loan with C.D. Aves – and helped them win a Portuguese Cup, and C.D. Tondela in 2018 before landing with Millonarios in 2019.

Columbus Crew Midfielder Artur undergoes successful sports hernia surgery

25-year-old Brazilian expected to be sidelined approximately 10-12 weeks

 

COLUMBUS – Columbus Crew today announced that midfielder Artur underwent successful sports hernia repair surgery to address ongoing issues related to a previously diagnosed sports hernia. The procedure was performed by Dr. Richard Cattey on Wednesday at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Mequon, Wisconsin. Artur is expected to be sidelined for approximately 10 to 12 weeks.

 

The 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder joined the Crew on loan from Brazilian First Division side Sao Paulo ahead of the 2017 MLS regular season, before joining on a permanent transfer on December 6, 2017. Since joining the Black & Gold, the midfielder has made 114 regular-season appearances (104 starts) while scoring two goals and providing nine assists. Both of Artur’s goals came during the Crew’s 2020 MLS Cup-winning season.
