PHILADELPHIA  – THIS SATURDAY, Jeter Promotions will be back at the 2300 Arena on Saturday night, August 7th.

 

Seeing action in the featured contest will be popular featherweight Brandon Chambers.

 

Chambers of Gwynn Oak, Maryland is undefeated with a record of 4-0-1 with two knockouts. Chambers, who brings fans from all over the East Coast is looking to capitalize on the impression that he made with the Philadelphia audience on April 24th, as he took out Jonathan Gray in three rounds.

 

The 10-bout show will feature competitive and fan-friendly four rounds, will showcase fighters from throughout the states of Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey

Chicago, IL.– On the heels of a sold-out, action packed event on July 17th in Rosemont, Illinois, Chicago’s top and busiest promoter, Hitz Boxing has been making moves and some of it’s top fighters in upcoming bouts.

 

—On August 21st undefeated cruiserweight Alante Green (8-0-1, 5 KOs) of Cleveland, Ohio is back in action on August 21st against the well-regarded Nick Kisner in a 10-round bout Columbus, Ohio.

 

Green, who has come down in weight nicely after his first six-bouts at heavyweight, takes on Kisner, who was an amateur star out of Maryland.

 

The 28 year-old Green is coming off a unanimous decision over another highly-regarded fighter in Stivens Bujaj (17-3-1) on June 4th.

 

Kisner (22-5-1, 6 KOs) is a former USA-NABA cruiserweight champion is coming off a win over previously undefeated Sam Crossed (9-0) on on February 28, 2020

 

–After a lengthy court battle, Hitz Boxing has undefeated light heavyweight Taylor Duerr back in the fold.

 

Duerr (10-0-2, 7 KOs) of Detroit will be back in action very soon.

 

“I am very happy to have this behind us. We are back on the same page, and I have already fielded calls and am working on getting Taylor back in the ring to get him the opportunities that a fighter with his record deserves,” said Bobby Hitz

 

–Hitz Boxing also announced the signing of lightweight Daniel Buenaventura.

 

“Daniel has a very deceiving record, but he has been on the bad end of some questionable decisions. We see a great future with him, and now that he has people behind him who can help move him the right way. He has been the Fight of the Night many times before, and I was very impressed when he fought on July 17th. We see something in him that he could be one of those real diamond-in-rough fighters. Split-T Management’s Ivan Golub Shines on Broadway and wins USBA Welterweight Title with Unanimous Decision over Eric Walker

NEW YORK – Ivan Golub captured the USBA Welterweight title with a 10-round unanimous decision over Eric Walker in a bout that took place on Tuesday night at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

 

With the win, Golub who is managed by Split-T Management, will now get a high-ranking by the IBF.

 

Walker came out fast, and tried to set a pace in the opening two frames. Once Golub was able to make the slight adjustments, he was able to dictate the fight on his own terms. He began to take control in the third round, and was able to put Walker on the canvas twice.

 

In round five, Golub landed a crisp right hook that put Walker on the deck.

 

In round nine, it was a left to the head that put Walker on the canvas, and that all but locked the fight up for Golub.

 

Golub of Brooklyn via Golovka, Ukraine won by scores of 98-90, 97-91 and 96-92 to raise his record to 20-1. Walker falls to 20-4.

 

Golub is promoted by DiBella Entertainment.

Split-T Management Signs Amateur Lightweight Kevin Montano

NEW YORK – Split-T Management has signed lightweight Kevin Montano

 

The 23 year-old Montano is from Sacramento, California and had a distinguished amateur career that saw him rise to the number-two ranked lightweight in the United States.

 

“Leading up to the end of my amateur career, Split-T Management CEO David McWater was there for me in so many ways. Dave gave me so much advice, and seeing how he treated me in amateurs, I feel that I am in the right spot. He has so many great fighters like Teofimo Lopez , I feel that Dave has the power and intelligence to move my career with success,” said Montano

 

“I grew up in a bad town that was on par section A Housing, My family and friends wanted me to stay out of trouble, so my they kept me in the gym. When I won my 1st fight at nine, I loved the feeling of winning. Nothing compared to performing in front of a crowd, and have your named announced as a winner.”

 

Montano started boxing at the age of eight under coach Gary Sullenger. Sullenger has remained with Montano through his amateur and now into his professional career.

 

During Montano’s amateur career, Montano was a three-time California State Champion, the 2017 National Golden Gloves runner-up, 2017 Eastern qualifier runner-up, 2019 Western qualifier runner-up and he placed third in 2021 Nationals.

 

Montano, who is fluent in both English and Spanish is a graduate of Sacramento State, with a degree in Kinesiology.

 

He lists Roberto Duran, Pernell Whitaker, Teofimo Lopez and Canelo Alvarez as favorite fighters.

 

He will make his pro debut this Friday night, August 6th in Sacramento.

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers signed four-time All-Star Cole Hamels to a one-year contract through the 2021 season. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated Yefry Ramírez for assignment.

 

Hamels, 37, returns to the Major Leagues after making one appearance for the Atlanta Braves in 2020, going 3.1 innings on September 16 at Baltimore. The 2008 NLCS and World Series MVP has been in the Major Leagues 15 seasons with stops in Philadelphia (2006-15), Texas (2015-18), Chicago (2018-19) and Atlanta (2020) and is a combined 163-122 with a 3.43 ERA (1027 ER/2698.0 ERA) with 2,560 strikeouts in 423 games. In his last full season in 2019, he went 7-7 with a 3.81 ERA (60 ER/140.1 IP) and 143 strikeouts for Chicago. The San Diego native was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in first round (17th overall) in the 2002 First Year Player Draft out Rancho Bernardo High School, CA.

Dodgers recall LHP Darien Núñez

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled left-handed pitcher Darien Núñez and placed right-handed pitcher Jimmy Nelson on the injured list with right elbow inflammation.

 

Núñez, 28, returns for his third stint with the club and is 0-1 with a 6.14 ERA (5 ER/7.1 IP) in five games (one start) for the Dodgers this season. He has split the season between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City, going a combined 5-0 with a 2.55 ERA (10 ER/35.1 IP) and 55 strikeouts. In 64 minor league contests, he is 8-2 with a 2.34 ERA (27 ER/104.0 IP) and 167 strikeouts. He was originally signed by the Dodgers as a minor league free agent on April 16, 2018.

 

Nelson, 31, heads to the injured list for the third time this season. He has appeared in 28 games (one start) for the Dodgers and is 1-2 record with a 1.86 ERA (6 ER/29.0 IP) and 44 strikeouts. He made his lone start of the season for the Dodgers on May 16, going 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball against the Marlins. He is in his seventh Major League season and is a combined 34-48 with a 4.12 ERA in 147 games (118 starts).

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves prior to Wednesday night’s contest against the Los Angeles Angels:

 

  • Right-handed pitcher Dane Dunning placed on 10-day Injured List, retroactive to August 3, with right ankle impingement.

 

  • Right-handed pitcher Demarcus Evans recalled from Round Rock (AAA).

 

  • Outfielder David Dahl placed on unconditional release waivers.

 

Dunning would be eligible to return from the Injured List on August 13. He has gone 5-7 with a 4.07 ERA (43 ER/95.0 IP) over 20 games/starts for the Rangers this season, ranking among rotation leaders in wins (T2nd, 5) and starts (3rd, 20). He ranks among American League rookie leaders in starts (T1st, 20) and innings (4th, 95.0). Dunning has gone 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA (9 ER/30.0 IP) over his last 6 starts for Texas.

 

Evans has a 0-2 record with a 5.65 ERA over 13 relief appearances spanning three stints with the Rangers this season (May 25-June 22, July 18, July 20-August 1). He did not make an appearance for the Express after last being optioned on Monday, as his most recent game appearance was for the Rangers on Sunday vs. Seattle. Evans has spent the balance of the season at Round Rock, going 1-0 with a 4.30 ERA over 12 relief outings.

 

Dahl was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Monday. He produced a .210 batting average with 4 home runs and 18 RBI in 63 games with Texas this season, including a stint on the Injured List from May 26-June 30 with left rib cage and upper back issues.

 

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with seven players on the 60-day Injured List.

Boston options infielder Jonathan Araúz to Triple-A Worcester

 

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today reinstated right-handed pitcher Matt Barnes from the COVID-19 Related Injured List. To make room on the active roster, the Red Sox optioned infielder Jonathan Araúz to Triple-A Worcester.

 

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

 

Barnes, 31, has appeared in 43 games with the Red Sox this season, going 5-2 with 23 saves, a 2.30 ERA (11 ER/43.0 IP), a 0.81 WHIP, a .164 opponent batting average, 66 strikeouts, and 11 walks. On July 11, Barnes agreed to a two-year contract extension that spans the 2022-23 seasons, with a club option for 2024. Named an All-Star for the first time in his career in 2021, the right-hander ranks seventh on the Red Sox’ all-time list of games pitched (368).

 

Araúz, 22, has played in seven games over two stints with Boston this season, batting .286 (4-for-14) with one double and three walks. The switch-hitter has played in 55 games for Worcester this season, batting .224 (41-for-183) with four doubles, one triple, six home runs, and 27 RBI while making 33 starts at second base, 11 at third base, and eight at shortstop.

Twins claim Ralph Garza Jr. off waivers from Houston

CINCINNATI, OH – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Ralph Garza Jr. off waivers from the Houston Astros. He will report to Triple-A St. Paul.

 

Garza, 27, made his major league debut on May 29 and appeared in nine games for the Astros this season, going 1-2 with a 4.09 ERA (11.0 IP, 5 ER), seven walks, 14 strikeouts, a .262 opponent batting average (11-for-42) and a 1.64 WHIP. The Edinburg, Texas native was drafted by Houston in the 26th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Oklahoma.

 

The Twins’ 40-man roster is now at 40.
