BENGALS WR JA’MARR CHASE & CHARGERS CB ASANTE SAMUEL JR. NAMED NFL ROOKIES OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER

Wide receiver JA’MARR CHASE of the Cincinnati Bengals and cornerback ASANTE SAMUEL JR. of the Los Angeles Chargers are the NFL Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Month for the month of September.

OFFENSE: WR JA’MARR CHASE, CINCINNATI BENGALS

  • Chase had 11 receptions and led all rookies with 220 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns in September.
  • He is one of four players in the NFL with a touchdown reception in each of the first three weeks of the season and became the third rookie in NFL history with a touchdown reception of at least 25 yards in each of his first three career games.
  • Chase joins quarterback Andy Dalton (October, 2011) and running back Corey Dillon (December, 1997) as the only Bengals to win Offensive Rookie of the Month.
  • He joins Odell Beckham Jr. (November and December, 2014) and Eddie Kennison (October, 1996) as the only former LSU wide receivers to earn the honor.

DEFENSE: CB ASANTE SAMUEL JR., LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

  • Samuel totaled 11 tackles and four passes defensed in September and is the only rookie with two interceptions through the season’s first month.
  • He joins Joey Bosa (October and December, 2016) and Paul Bradford (November, 1997) as the only Chargers to win Defensive Rookie of the Month.
  • Samuel joins Ronald Darby (September, 2015) as the only former Florida State cornerbacks to earn the honor.

RAMS WR COOPER KUPP, COWBOYS CB TREVON DIGGS & 49ERS P MITCH WISHNOWSKY NAMED NFC PLAYERS OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER

Wide receiver COOPER KUPP of the Los Angeles Rams, cornerback TREVON DIGGS of the Dallas Cowboys and punter MITCH WISHNOWSKY of the San Francisco 49ers are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Month for the month of September.

OFFENSE: WR COOPER KUPP, LOS ANGELES RAMS

  • Kupp tied for the lead league with 25 receptions while leading the league with 367 receiving yards (122.3 per game) and five receiving touchdowns to help the Rams begin 3-0 for the third time in the past four seasons.
  • He is the only player in the league with at least 95 receiving yards in each of the first three weeks of the season and is one of four players with a touchdown reception in each week.
  • This is the first Offensive Player of the Month award for Kupp and he joins Torry Holt (October, 2003), Pro Football Hall of Famer Isaac Bruce (October, 1995) and Henry Ellard (December, 1988) as the only Rams wide receivers to earn the honor.
  • Kupp becomes the first-ever player from Eastern Washington to win Player of the Month.

DEFENSE: CB TREVON DIGGS, DALLAS COWBOYS

  • Diggs recorded nine tackles, a league-best six passes defensed and tied for the league lead with three interceptions, including an interception return for a touchdown in Week 3, in September.
  • He is the only player in the league with an interception in each of the first three weeks of the season.
  • This is the first Defensive Player of the Month award for Diggs and he joins defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence (September, 2017) and linebacker Sean Lee (October, 2013 and September, 2011) as the only Cowboys to earn the honor.
  • Diggs becomes the third former Alabama defensive back to win Defensive Player of the Month, joining Landon Collins (November, 2016) and Eddie Jackson (November, 2018).

SPECIAL TEAMS: P MITCH WISHNOWSKY, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

  • Wishnowsky averaged 46.8 yards on 11 punts (43.4 net), with a league-high eight being placed inside the 20-yard line.
  • This is the first Special Teams Player of the Month for Wishnowsky and he becomes the first 49ers punter to earn the honor.
  • He also becomes the first former Utah player to win Special Teams Player of the Month.

RAIDERS QB DEREK CARR, BRONCOS LB VON MILLER & JAGUARS WR JAMAL AGNEW NAMED AFC PLAYERS OF THE  MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER

Quarterback DEREK CARR of the Las Vegas Raiders, linebacker VON MILLER of the Denver Broncos and wide receiver JAMAL AGNEW of the Jacksonville Jaguars are the AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Month for the month of September.

OFFENSE: QB DEREK CARR, LAS VEGAS RAIDERS

  • Carr completed 88 of 136 pass attempts (64.7 percent) for a league-high 1,203 yards with six touchdowns for a 101.4 rating over the league’s first three weeks, helping the Raiders begin 3-0 for the first time since 2002.
  • He recorded at least 375 passing yards and two touchdown passes in each game and is the fourth quarterback in NFL history with at least 1,200 passing yards through his team’s first three games of a season.
  • This is the first Offensive Player of the Month award for Carr, who joins Rich Gannon (November, 2001) and Jay Schroeder (December, 1990) as the only Raiders quarterbacks to earn the honor.
  • Carr joins wide receiver Henry Ellard (December, 1988) as the only former Fresno State players to win Offensive Player of the Month.

DEFENSE: LB VON MILLER, DENVER BRONCOS

  • Miller recorded eight tackles, four sacks and a league-high six tackles for loss in helping the Broncos begin 3-0 for their first time since 2016.
  • He was the only player in the AFC to record a sack in each of the first three weeks of the season.
  • This is the fourth Defensive Player of the Month award for Miller:

    • 2014: October
    • 2016: September
    • 2021: September
  • Miller ties Pro Football Hall of Famers Terrell Davis and Peyton Manning for the most-ever Player of the Month awards by a Broncos player (four).

SPECIAL TEAMS: WR JAMAL AGNEW, JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

  • Agnew returned three kickoffs for a total of 138 yards, including a 102-yard kickoff return touchdown in Week 2. In Week 3, he had a 109-yard missed field goal return for a touchdown, tied for the longest return in league annals.
  • He became the first player in NFL history to register a touchdown of at least 100 yards in consecutive games.
  • This is the first-career Special Teams Player of the Month award for Agnew and he joins punter Chris Hanson (September, 2005) as the only Jaguars to earn the honor.
  • Agnew is the first-ever former University of San Diego player to win a Player of the Month award.
