TONIGHT’S OPPONENT: ST. LOUIS BLUES
The Blues and Sharks wrap their season set with a Thursday matchup at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis. The Blues have won each of the first two meetings, a 5-3 decision in November and most recently a 6-3 final at SAP Center last Thursday, a game in which the Sharks jumped out to a 2-0 lead but could not hang on. St. Louis enters Thursday’s meeting on the heels of a 6-2 setback against the Arizona Coyotes. The Blues’ Pavel Buchnevich brings a six-game point streak (4g, 7a) into the game, including a four-assist outing against the Sharks on March 2. GOLDEN KNIGHTS LAST GAME RECAP
March 7 – Vegas Golden Knights 1, Florida Panthers 2
The Vegas Golden Knights (38-20-6) were defeated by the Florida Panthers (32-27-6), 2-1, in the first game of their five-game road trip on Tuesday night at FLA Live Arena. The Panthers pounced out to a 1-0 lead on a Ryan Lomberg goal less than five minutes into the contest. Florida added to the lead four minutes into the middle frame as Aleksandr Barkov made it a 2-0 game. Shea Theodore got the Golden Knights on the board with a power-play goal at 13:23 of the period and Vegas went into the third period trailing by a goal. The third period passed without a goal as the Panthers captured the 2-1 win.

In nine meetings, Vegas owns a 6-3-0 record against Tampa Bay and has only lost once at AMALIE Arena, owning a record of 3-1-0. The last time these teams met, the Golden Knights had four goals in the first period (Brett Howden, Jonathan Marchessault (2), and Shea Theodore) to enter the first intermission ahead of the visitors, 4-2. Corey Perry scored in the middle frame to bring the Lightning within one, but Nicolas Roy scored on the empty net to give Vegas some reassurance which prevented Pierre-Edouard Bellemare’s late tally from sending the game past regulation. With a win against Tampa Bay on Thursday, Vegas has the opportunity to sweep the season series for the first time since the Golden Knight’s inaugural season in 2017-18.

The season-best nine-game series of wins set up by the New York Knicks was obliterated by one of the most awful groups in the NBA.

When the Knicks face the Sacramento Kings, the league’s most surprising team, on Thursday night, they hope to kick off a new run of success.

During the streak, New York defeated the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, and Miami Heat twice. On Tuesday, the streak came to an end with a 112-105 home loss to the Charlotte Hornets, the second-worst team in the Eastern Conference.

After taking a 16-point lead at the half, the Knicks suddenly lost steam and were outscored 62-39 in the second half.

New York suffered its first defeat since acquiring guard Josh Hart from the Portland Trail Blazers four weeks prior to this defeat.

Jalen Brunson, a star point guard, has been out of the last two games with a foot injury. However, he did travel to Sacramento for the first of a four-game western swing. He may or may not be available against the Kings.

For New York, Immanuel Quickley started the previous two games in Brunson’s place. He had a career-high 38 points in Sunday’s 131-129 double-overtime road win over the Celtics, but he only had 14 points against the Hornets on 5-of-16 shooting.

The Kings, who have won six of their last seven games to tie the Memphis Grizzlies for second place in the Western Conference, will challenge the Knicks to a comeback.

A team that has missed the playoffs in each of the previous 16 seasons is unprepared for Sacramento’s lofty status. In point of fact, if the Kings (38-26) defeat New York, they will tie their record for most victories during their lengthy drought.

The 2005–06 season, which also marked Sacramento’s last playoff appearance, was the last time the team even had a winning season.

The Kings’ top priority is putting an end to the drought.

After defeating the New Orleans Pelicans 123-108 at home on Monday, Sacramento is coming off a win. With 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists, Domantas Sabonis recorded his eighth triple-double of the season, bringing his total of 52 double-doubles, which is the most in the league.

Kevin Huerter, who scored 25 points and is averaging 24 in the first three games of a four-game homestand, was another standout. Huerter has made six treys in his last two games and is 15 of 23 (65.2%) from beyond the arc over the last three games.

In February, Huerter made just 29.2% of his attempts from three-point range.

After missing one game, the Kings anticipate having All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox (hamstring) back for the game.

After losing their 16-game winning streak this past weekend, the Milwaukee Bucks will be back in action on Thursday night when they host the Brooklyn Nets, who are playing in Brooklyn.

On Tuesday night, the Bucks defeated the Orlando Magic 134-123 on the road. It was Milwaukee’s 14th win over Orlando in a row, the NBA’s longest winning streak against a single opponent.

Star Giannis Antetokounmpo passed on that challenge with a non-Coronavirus sickness. Due to soreness in his right hand, he has been ruled out of the game on Thursday.

On Tuesday, the Bucks were led by Brook Lopez, who was without Antetokounmpo and Jrue Holiday. He had 26 points, and Khris Middleton and Jevon Carter each had 24. In his first start since December 15, Middleton also had a team-high 11 assists.

Brooklyn defeated the Houston Rockets 118-96 on Tuesday to claim its third victory in a row. Spencer Dinwiddie had 23 points, Mikal Bridges led the team with 30 points and five assists, Nic Claxton had 18, and Mikal Bridges had 13 rebounds in his new uniform.

Ben Simmons will be out once more against the Bucks because of soreness in both his back and knee on Tuesday. After Detroit bought out center Nerlens Noel, the Nets signed him to a 10-day contract as additional frontcourt support. Noel made his debut on Tuesday. He played 18 minutes, scoring two focuses and snatching three bounce back.

With an average of 31.2 points and 11.9 rebounds per game, Antetokounmpo leads Milwaukee in both categories. Lopez continues to be a force in the low post, averaging a team-high 2.4 blocks per game, while Holiday leads the way with 7.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

In the ten games he has played so far, Bridges is leading the Nets with 26.5 points per game, while Dinwiddie and Cameron Johnson are behind him with 17.6 and 17.2 points, respectively. Claxton is the team leader with an average of 9.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game.

Milwaukee hopes to win the season series 3-1 in this, their fourth and final meeting. The Bucks prevailed 118-104 on the road in the previous meeting, which took place on February 28.

The Golden State Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies, who will be hosting the game, will renew their fierce rivalry in a nationally televised affair on Thursday night. Both teams are slipping in the Western Conference standings and are unaware of when reinforcements might arrive.

Since Andrew Wiggins left the Warriors on Feb. 14 for personal reasons, they have lost seven games in a row at home, including four straight.

Players, coach Steve Kerr, and general manager Bob Myers, all of the Golden State Warriors, have acknowledged speaking with Wiggins during his absence, and they have all stated the same thing: Take good care of your company.

The Heroes were trusting Stephen Curry’s return from a 11-game nonappearance because of a lower leg injury would assist them with finishing their street misfortunes. Yet, Curry’s 27 and 40 focuses, separately, haven’t been an adequate number of in misfortunes to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday and Oklahoma City Roar on Tuesday.

Golden State has won the first two regular season games against a team that met in the Western Conference semifinals last year because it has home court advantage.

The profound challenges have seen Poole get a two-specialized launch in a 123-109 win on Christmas Day, and Curry get the push for tossing his mouthpiece into the stands late in a 122-120 victory a month after the fact.

On March 18, the clubs will meet for the fourth and final time, also in Memphis.

The Grizzlies hope to have Ja Morant back by then, but no timetable has been provided for his leave of absence due to an online-publicized gun incident.

Morant has passed on Memphis’ last two games in Los Angeles, which they lost to the Trimmers on Sunday and the Lakers on Tuesday. The Grizzlies made the announcement on Wednesday that Morant would be out for the next four games, with his first appearance being March 17 against the San Antonio Spurs.

Taylor Jenkins, the head coach of the Grizzlies, hopes that Morant will earn the public’s same respect as Wiggins did from his teammates.

Tyus Jones has stepped into the starting lineup at point guard and has performed admirably, just as he did when Morant injured his knee and had to miss the final three games of the Grizzlies’ 4-2 playoff loss to Golden State.

In the loss to the Clippers, he scored 25 points, had 12 assists, and had five steals. In the loss to the Lakers, he scored 16 points.

Jones made three starts in the playoff series against the Warriors last season. In Games 4 and 5, he scored 19 and 21 points, respectively. In Game 6, when the Grizzlies lost to Golden State, he scored seven points, grabbed nine rebounds, and had eight assists.

TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
Tonight, the New York Islanders visit the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth and final matchup between the two clubs this season. The Islanders have won each of their last three meetings with Pittsburgh, including a 4-2 comeback win the last time the Islanders visited PPG Paints Arena on February 20. Bo Horvat, Brock Nelson, and Zach Parise each recorded multi-point games to help the Islanders score three unanswered goals in the third period.

In their franchise history, the Islanders have never won each meeting of a season series with the Penguins and have also never swept each road meeting with the Penguins in a season. A win tonight would solidify their first winning record on the road against Pittsburgh since the 2014-15 campaign, when the Islanders were 2-1-0 in three visits to Pittsburgh.
