NBA Preview: Miami Heat (38-33) at Chicago Bulls (32-37)

0

Eastern Conference counterparts are maneuvering for a postseason situation will make right Saturday night in Chicago when the Bulls and Miami Heat conflict.

The Chicago (32-37) team will play the second leg of a pair of games. Miami (38-33) will play this as the first game of a road back-to-back.

The Heat will begin their weekend double-dip with a Sunday appearance in last-place Detroit. Before that, Miami will attempt to win its third consecutive game after defeating Utah and Memphis, respectively, on Monday and Wednesday at home.

In Miami’s victory over the Grizzlies on Wednesday, Bam Adebayo scored 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor to lead three players who scored at least 23 points. Jimmy Butler finished with 23 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, while Tyler Herro added 24 points.

Wednesday’s challenge denoted Steward’s 6th in a row with no less than 23 places, a stretch that topped with a 38-point execution in the Intensity’s latest misfortune – a 126-114 extra time choice at Orlando on Walk 11.

Steward’s scoring capability concurs with a six-game stretch wherein Miami scored more than its NBA-low 109.1 focuses per-game normal in five of six trips. Going into the final stretch of the regular season, improved offense has been a focus, according to coach Erik Spoelstra.

Miami entered the game against Chicago in seventh place in the East and atop the four-team play-in group. After defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 139-131 in double overtime on Friday, the Bulls moved up to 10th place through games.

The Bulls’ third victory in their last four games came on Friday. They lost at the ringer on Wednesday to Sacramento.

DeMar DeRozan scored 49 points against the Timberwolves, a season-high, after scoring 33 points against the Kings. In the victory, DeRozan also pulled in 14 rebounds.

39 points were scored by Zach LaVine.

Nikola Vucevic scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Chicago, achieving his 43rd career double-double.

With a victory over the Heat on Saturday, the Bulls can move to 3-0 on the season. Chicago won 113-103 in Miami on Dec. 20 and opened the season with a 116-108 triumph, likewise out and about.

This season’s final matchup between the two teams will be on Saturday.

It was also the second-latest go-ahead goal by any player this season behind Ryan Graves (59:58 with NJD on February 14th).

QUICK HITS:
Blake Coleman scored two goals on Thursday, including his second game-winning goal of the season. Troy Stecher dropped the gloves for the first time as a member of the Flames, and just the fifth time of his 427-game career when he fought Vegas’ Paul Cotter. Nick Ritchie had a game-high seven hits in Vegas, while MacKenzie Weegar had six and the Flames out-hit the Golden Knights 37-23. Mikael Backlund’s third period tally now gives him goals in back-to-back games, and he has found the back of the net in three-straight contests against the Golden Knights.

QUICK FACTS
Saturday’s game will mark Edmonton’s fourth and final game against the Kraken this season and the second of two games in Seattle.

The last time these teams met was on January 17th in Edmonton where the Oilers won 5-2.

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl lead the team with 12 career points against Seattle.

POWER PLAY PROWESS
The Oilers have the top three power play point getters in the NHL, with McDavid (60), Draisaitl (51) and Nugent-Hopkins (44) ranking first, second and third respectively. Connor McDavid’s 60 power play points on the year, give him the Oilers single season record for most PPP’s in a season, a record previously held by Wayne Gretzky (57 – 1981-82). Leon Draisaitl scored his league leading 27th power play goal of the season on Mar. 11 at TOR to pass his own franchise record for most PPG’s in one season, a mark he set in 2021-22. Draisaitl’s 27 power play goals are the most by any player since 2005-06, when Ilya Kovalchuk posted 27 with the Atlanta Thrashers. Only one other active player has scored 26+ PPG’s in a single season – Chris Kreider (26 in ’21-22 w/NYR).
