Colombian defender departs New England after one season

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have mutually agreed to part ways with defender Christian Mafla. The transaction opens an international roster spot for New England.

A native of Palmira, Colombia, Mafla registered nine appearances, including seven starts, in his lone season with the Revolution in 2021. He made an additional three appearances with Revolution II in USL League One. The 29-year-old arrived in New England from Atlético Nacional ahead of the 2021 season.

The Revolution are less than two weeks away from opening play in the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Round of 16. Leg 1 is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 15 (6:00 p.m. ET – FOX Sports, TUDN) with Leg 2 on Tuesday, Feb. 22 (6:00 p.m. ET – FOX Sports, TUDN), both at Gillette Stadium. Revolution Season Memberships, single-game tickets, and SCCL “Pay-as-We-Play” ticket packages are on sale now.
