Nevada heads to San Diego for USD Winter Classic

SAN DIEGO – Nevada women’s basketball goes on the road for the USD Winter Classic, taking on Idaho on Saturday and San Diego on Sunday for 4 p.m. tipoffs.

Larry Burnett will have the call on 94.1 FM and 1450 AM, with a 20 minute pregame show prior to tipoff. Fans can also listen live online through the Varsity Network. The game will be available to watch on WCC and live stats can be accessed through Sidearm.

Junior guard Gabby Giuffre will be going up against her former team, San Diego, on Sunday on her former home floor. She played in 45 career games during her San Diego games, producing a career-high 11 points at Arizona State. She matched that career-high on Nov. 13 against Pacific in Nevada’s home opener.

Junior forward Lexie Givens has recently stepped up her game both in the points and rebounds columns. She produced back-to-back double-doubles for points and rebounds in the 2022 Nugget Classic on Nov. 25 and 27, earning All-Tournament team honors in the process. She is the first Nevada player since Terae Briggs in 2018 to post a double-double in back-to-back games.

This year’s Nevada women’s basketball team ranks 26th in the nation and fourth in the Mountain West in steals per game with a 12.0 mark. Redshirt junior Alyssa Jimenez is became the seventh player since 2013 to record 100 career steals. She is the fastest player since 2013 to reach that mark.

SCOUTING IDAHO
Idaho is looking to build off its first win of the season on Nov. 27 against Navy. The Vandals are familiar foes of Nevada, being former rivals when the Pack was in the Big Sky and WAC conferences. Idaho is seeking its 20th win over Nevada in the NCAA era.

Beyonce Bea is Idaho’s bread and butter, with Bea averaging over 22 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game. Idaho also has three other players averaging at least eight points per game.

SCOUTING SAN DIEGO
San Diego is off to a 4-3 start heading into the USD Winter Classic, with their non-conference schedule including powerhouses like Florida Gulf Coast, USC and Arizona. The Toreros have won four of the last five meetings against Nevada, with the Pack looking for their first win on San Diego’s home floor.

Myah Pace leads San Diego on offense, averaging 11.3 points per game while grabbing 4.9 rebounds per game. Kiera Oakry adds production with 9.1 points per game while Kasey Neubert has pulled down 6.3 rebounds per game.
