This is Race 24 of 25 in the 2026 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series and the penultimate event of the Chase (playoffs). It is a critical short-track showdown with championship implications. Stages are set at 50/100/200 laps (total 200 laps / 105.2 miles).
Track Details
Martinsville Speedway is a classic 0.526-mile (0.847 km) paperclip-shaped asphalt/concrete short-track oval—the shortest and oldest continuously operating track on the NASCAR national schedule (opened 1947).
Turns: Four tight, nearly flat turns banked at 12 degrees.
Straights: Frontstretch and backstretch each measure approximately 800 feet and are completely flat (0 degrees banking).
Surface: Asphalt on the straights and upper portions of the turns; concrete on the lower groove of the turns (a distinctive feature since a 1970s repair).
Character: Demanding on brakes due to hard stops into the tight corners. Passing often occurs with bumper contact; tire management and track position are critical. The long straights reward good drive off the corners, while the flat turns create “bump-and-run” racing typical of Martinsville.
Weather Conditions
Favorable racing weather is expected. Forecast for Ridgeway/Martinsville area on Friday, October 30: Mostly sunny to sunny skies, high near 78–81°F (26–27°C), low in the mid-to-upper 40s°F overnight. Light/variable winds (around 5 mph), near-zero chance of precipitation. Cool evening temperatures by race time should provide good grip without extreme heat affecting tires excessively.
Current Championship Context & Recent Driver Forms
Kaden Honeycutt (No. 11 TRICON Garage Toyota) leads the Chase standings with 2,371 points and a 43-point advantage over Layne Riggs (No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford, 2,328 points). The rest of the field trails significantly (Ty Majeski third at –141, Chandler Smith –142, Christian Eckes –144). With only two races remaining (Martinsville + Homestead Championship), this is effectively a two-driver title fight.
Kaden Honeycutt: Strong recent form with multiple wins (including Phoenix) and consistent top finishes. Solid short-track credentials.
Layne Riggs: Season wins leader (7); aggressive and fast, needs a strong result to close the gap.
Other contenders (Majeski, Chandler Smith, Eckes, Gio Ruggiero, etc.) are mathematically long shots but can influence the race and stage points.
Recent Talladega winner Sammy Smith (part-time/ineligible for points in some contexts) and other strong short-track runners add depth.
36 entries are locked in, including notable one-offs and developmental drivers (e.g., William Sawalich, Carson Ferguson, Gavan Boschele).
Key Driver Matchups
Honeycutt vs. Riggs: The central championship duel. Both excel on short tracks; track position, pit strategy, and late-race restarts will decide who gains or loses ground.
TRICON Garage strength (Honeycutt, Ruggiero, Tanner Gray, etc.) vs. Front Row (Riggs, Chandler Smith) and McAnally-Hilgemann (Eckes, Ankrum, Hemric).
Short-track specialists and veterans such as Ty Majeski, Ben Rhodes, Grant Enfinger, and Stewart Friesen often thrive in the tight, contact-heavy environment.
Bumper battles in the concrete lower groove and re-starts after cautions (common at Martinsville) frequently decide outcomes.
Race History at Martinsville
Martinsville has a long Truck Series history featuring intense short-track racing. Recent trends favor drivers who manage tires and brakes well while capitalizing on restarts. The paperclip layout historically produces high caution counts and dramatic finishes. Previous winners at the track in Trucks include strong short-track performers; dominance by a single driver or team is possible but late cautions often scramble the order.
Betting Trends
Short-track races at Martinsville often see favorites perform well due to experience and equipment, but the chaotic nature (cautions, contact) creates value in mid-pack or aggressive drivers. Championship leaders Honeycutt and Riggs typically draw the shortest odds. Stage points and top-5/top-10 props are popular. Historical short-track trends favor drivers with strong qualifying and clean early runs
This Black’s Tire 200 (note: 200 laps, not 250—the 250 was an earlier Richmond event) promises classic Martinsville action under the lights with major championship stakes. Expect hard racing, frequent cautions, and a decisive result in the title fight between Honeycutt and Riggs.
