MLS Preview: Toronto FC (3-12-10) at Columbus Crew SC (11-7-6)

The Columbus Crew SC has won each of its last two home matches against Toronto FC, recording 2-1 wins in both 2021 and 2022. The Columbus Crew SC had won just two of their previous 10 home meetings against Toronto FC (D5 L3, including playoffs) dating back to 2014.

The Columbus Crew SC has lost only one of its last 23 home matches in all competitions dating back to August 2022 (W15 D7). The Columbus Crew SC are unbeaten in 11 straight at home (W8 D3) the seventh time since the start of the 2016 season that they’ve gone at least 11 straight home matches in all competitions without defeat.

Toronto FC has lost nine straight matches in all competitions following a 3-2 defeat on Sunday. Excluding breakaway shootout losses, only three MLS teams have lost 10 or more consecutive matches in all competitions. FC Cincinnati (14) in 2021-2022, Real Salt Lake (10) in 2005 and the MetroStars (10) in 1999.

Cucho Hernandez has contributed to 11 goals in 10 home matches this MLS season (5 goals, 6 assists), including scoring a penalty on Sunday. Since joining the Columbus Crew SC last July, Hernandez has been involved in 15 goals (9 goals, 6 assists) in 18 appearances at Lower.com Field.

Federico Bernardeschi ended Toronto FC’s six-match goalless run in all competitions with a brace on Sunday. The goals were Bernardeschi’s 12th and 13th in MLS play, four more than any other player on the team since his MLS debut last July (L. Insigne- 9).
