MLS Preview: St. Louis City SC (14-8-2) at Orlando City SC (11-6-7)

Orlando City SC has won its last two regular-season matches against expansion teams, completing the double over Charlotte FC last season. Orlando City SC has won five of its last seven regular-season home matches against MLS newcomers (L2).

Orlando City SC is unbeaten in nine straight home matches (W5 D4) in all competitions dating back to late April. This equals the Orlando City SC Lions’ second-longest home unbeaten run ever behind a stretch of 15 straight home games without a loss (W7 D8) from August 2015 to June 2016.

St. Louis City SC became the second expansion team to score at least six goals in a regular-season match in their 6-3 win over Austin FC on Sunday (Atlanta United FC 2x). St. Louis City SC’s 44 points through 24 matches are four more than any other expansion team in MLS history (Chicago Fire – 40 in 1998).

Two of Orlando City SC’s three goals against the Chicago Fire on Sunday were headers. Orlando City SC has scored nine headed goals this season, tied with four other teams, including St. Louis City SC, for most in MLS this year.

Eduard Lowen recorded the primary assist on three of St. Louis City SC’s six goals on Sunday. Lowen is the first player to record three primary assists in a match for an expansion team since Kwadwo Poku for New York City FC against fellow expansion Orlando City SC in July 2015.
