MLS Preview: Seattle Sounders FC (6-3-2) at Houston Dynamo FC (4-3-2)

The Seattle Sounders have won 10 of their last 11 meetings against the Houston Dynamo FC (L1, including playoffs) dating back to June 2017. The Sounders are the second team in the post-shootout era (since 2000) to win 10 times in an 11-match span against a single opponent, (including playoffs), along with the New England Revolution against FC Dallas (2004-09).

The Houston Dynamo FC have collected 13 points from their first five home matches of the season (W4 D1), equaling the best home start to s season in club history (2013, 2017, 2019). Houston has lost only one of its last nine home league matches (W6 D2) dating back to the end of last season.

The Seattle Sounders FC have seven points from its last four MLS road matches (W2 D1 L1) including a 0-0 draw at Real Salt Lake in its last away match. The Sounders haven’t kept clean sheets in consecutive road MLS matches since the 2017 playoffs (including neutral site games), with the second of those coming in Houston.

The Houston Dynamo FC’s scoreless draw with Real Salt Lake on Saturday was their fifth straight home match with a clean sheet to start the season, the fourth team to do so in MLS history (Seattle Sounders FC 2023, Columbus Crew SC 2020, and the New England Revolution 2005). No team has kept a clean sheet in their first six home matches of an MLS season.

After scoring eight times in his first six matches this MLS season, Jordan Morris has failed to score in his last five appearances. Over those first six games, Morris produced an expected goals value of 4.10, best in MLS, while his 1.51 xG since leaves him outside the league’s top 25 since matchday seven.
