MLS Preview: Real Salt Lake (12-11-7) at Los Angeles Football Club (12-9-9)

The Los Angeles Football Club have won 11 of its 12 regular-season meetings with Real Salt Lake (L1), including the last seven in a row. The Los Angeles Football Club’s 91.7 win rate over over Real Salt Lake is the best by one team against another in the post shootout era (minimum five meetings).

The Los Angeles Football Club have played three straight scoreless draws in all competitions, including losing the Campeones Cup on penalties to Tigres on Wednesday. Only one team in MLS history, Real Salt Lake in 2012, have played four straight 0-0 games in all competitions.

Real Salt Lake has lost four straight away matches in all competitions after going unbeaten in its previous 11 on the road (W8 D3). Real Salt Lake has allowed 11 goals in those four games after letting in 12 total goals in its previous 11-match road unbeaten run.

The scoreless draw in the Campeones Cup Final on Wednesday marked the 12th time this season that the Los Angeles Football Club has failed to score a goal in all competitions. The Los Angeles Football Club was shut out only 19 times total in its first five seasons, never failing to score in more than five matches in any of those seasons.

Brayan Vera scored his second direct free-kick goal of the season in Real Salt Lake’s 2-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday. Vera is the first Real Salt Lake player to score multiple direct free-kick goals in a single season since Javier Morales (2) in 2015.
