MLS Preview: Orlando City SC (4-4-2) at Columbus Crew SC (4-4-2)

Orlando City SC has won seven of its last eight matches against the Columbus Crew SC (L1), only the second team in the post-shootout era (since 2000) to do so against the Columbus Crew SC (Chicago Fire – 7 wins in 8 games from 2010-2013). No other team has more than five wins over the Columbus Crew SC since the start of the 2018 season.

the Columbus Crew SC have lost two straight MLS matches, including a 2-1 home defeat to Inter Miami FC on April 29 to end a 10-match home unbeaten run (W6 D4). Columbus has lost consecutive home league matches once since the start of the season, in April 2022, with the second of those three losses coming against Orlando City SC.

Orlando City SC has alternated wins and losses in its last seven MLS matches, losing, 2-0, at the CF Montreal Impact on Saturday. The defeat at the CF Montreal Impact was Orlando City SC’s first away loss of the year after beginning the season with two wins and a draw in its first three on the road.

Lucas Zelarayan has contributed to at least one goal in each of Columbus Crew SC’s first four home matches this season (3G 3A). Only two players have been involved in at least one goal in each of their first five home matches of a season for the Crew: Justin Meram (2015, 2017) and Guillermo Barros Schelotto (2009).

Martin Ojeda attempted one shot and set up three more for teammates in Orlando City SC’s loss to the CF Montreal Impact on Saturday. Ojeda has been directly involved in 53 shots this season (36 shots, 17 chances created), tied for fifth-most in MLS in 2023.
