MLS Preview: Nashville SC (5-3-3) at D.C. United (4-5-2)

Nashville SC has never lost to D. C. United, recording three wins and a draw in four all-time meetings. Nashville SC has scored nine goals over the four meetings with Hany Mukhtar scoring (3) or assisting (1) four of those goals.

D. C. United recorded a 3-0 win over Charlotte FC in its last home MLS match, just its third win in its last 16 home league games dating back to mid-May 2022 (D5 L8). D. C. United only home winning streak since the start of last season was in April-May 2022 with wins over the New England Revolution and Houston Dynamo FC.

Nashville SC attempted 30 shots in its 3-0 win over the Chicago Fire on Saturday with only five coming from outside the box. The 25 shots in the box equals the most by any team in an MLS match since the start of the 2010 season (San Jose Earthquakes vs Vancouver Whitecaps FC in August 2019).

Taxiarxhis Fountas scored his 15th MLS goal in his 28th league appearance in D. C. United’s defeat at FC Cincinnati on Saturday. Only six D. C. United players reached 15 goals in fewer appearances, with only current manager Wayne Rooney (23 games) doing so faster in the last 15 years.

With his hat-trick against the Chicago Fire on Saturday. Hany Mukhtar has been involved in nine goals in his last six MLS matches (6 goals, 3 assists) dating back to the beginning of April. Only three teams other than Nashville SC have scored more than nine goals in that time.
