MLS Preview: Los Angeles Galaxy (2-7-3) at D.C. United (4-5-4)

D. C. United is unbeaten in its last five home matches against the Los Angeles Galaxy (W2 D3), including a 2-1 win the last meeting between the sides, in August 2019. The Los Angeles Galaxy have won just one of their nine matches at D. C. United dating back to 2007, a 2-1 win in July 2010.

D. C. United has lost only one of its last six MLS matches (W3 D2), including draws in each of its last two matches. D. C. United has as many points in its last six games (11) as it managed in its previous 20 league matches dating back to the beginning of August (W2 D5 L13).

The Los Angeles Galaxy are winless in their first six road games of the season (D2 L4), including losing their last three away from home. Los Angeles Galaxy has recorded a streak of at least three straight road losses in each of the last seven seasons (since 2017) after having just three such streaks in the previous eight seasons (2009-2016).

Christian Benteke attempted four shots in D. C. United’s 0-0 draw with the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, twice as many as any other player in the match. Benteke has led or co-led D. C. United in shots in seven of his 12 MLS matches this season.

The Los Angeles Galaxy’s 2-0 loss at the Columbus Crew SC on Wednesday was their fifth straight road match without a goal, the second-longest streak in club history after a six-game run in 2004-2005. Los Angeles Galaxy have attempted 65 shots over those five games but hit just 14 (21.5) on target.
