MLS Preview: Inter Miami FC (5-8-0) at CF Montréal Impact (5-8-0)

The lone meeting between CF Montreal Impact and Inter Miami FC in Canada was a 2-2 draw in August 2022. Since that match, Inter Miami FC has played 23 regular season games without drawing any of them (W11 L12) while CF Montreal Impact has drawn just one of its 23 since W13 D1 L9).

After two straight road losses in league play, CF Montreal Impact returns home, where its won six of its last seven regular season matches (L1), including the last three in a row, all with clean sheets. CF Montreal has recorded four straight shutout wins at home only once in club history, doing so from October 2018 to April 2019.

Inter Miami FC has lost five of its first six away league matches this season (W1), including a 2-1 defeat at Nashville SC in its last road match. One of those defeats, a 2-0 loss at Toronto FC, is Inter Miami FC’s only-ever defeat in Canada, after recording two wins and a draw in its three visits north of the border.

The CF Montreal Impact generated just five shots in its loss to the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. It marked the league-leading seventh time this season that CF Montreal was held to fewer than 10 shots in a match, though only two of those seven games were at home.

Inter Miami FC’s long goal against Orlando City SC on Saturday came from outside the box as the Herons managed just 12 touches in the Orlando City SC penalty area. Inter Miami FC has averaged just 16.5 penalty area touches per match this season, only CF Montreal (15.7) has averaged fewer.
